1 | Are Christmas and Easter pagan in origin | Gal 4:10 | Norrie | 24392
I did a search to find an appropriate catagory for this email I got today. Check out url at bottom too. It was outlawed until 1870. Did you know that christmas was actually outlawed in early America? Do you remember the "turning the tide" Revolutionary War victory of General George Washington over the Hessians on christmas eve? Was that some sacrifice? Did they fight for freedom against tyranny on christmas eve? The answer from history, both cultural and militarily, is a resounding NO! There was no "christmas sacrifice" because christmas wasn't celebrated by Americans. They knew the Germans would be ripe pickings because christmas was a German celebration that was celebrated in drunkenness (as is APPROPRIATE if you observe this day). December 25th was celebrated in honor of that evil pagan god long before the birth of The SAVIOUR. The wreath, so much used at Christmas, was used then, too. It was sacred to Bacchus, the god of drunkenness and revelry. Also, the tree, giving of gifts, and mistletoe at this time – the whole works were all part of that worship. Congress was in session 12/25/1789 - - the first christmas under America's new constitution. The New York city council instituted the city's first police force in response to xmas rioting of 1828. christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until 6/26/1870! 2 | Are Christmas and Easter pagan in origin | Gal 4:10 | farout | 35109
Quite recently I think I heard that the Jewish people at the time of Christ's birth used the aproximant conception date for celebration of their birthday. (not unique to just Jew's) So based on that December might well have been when the Holy Spirit implanted Jesus in Mary's womb. What do you think? Who knows for sure, well Mary does and we will know when we leave this tempoary place to our real home ! RIGHT?
3 | Are Christmas and Easter pagan in origin | Gal 4:10 | Emmaus | 35118
farout, I think the use of the word Easter is peculiar only to certain languages, English being one. For example in Spanish Easter is called dia de Pascua or domingo de gloia, day of the pasch (passover) or Lord's day of glory. Christmas is called Feliz Navidad, happy (day of) birth or felices Pascua, happy passover. I am sure there are other examples in other languages. Emmaus |
