EdB, Cheap is good! In tape 1 Hahn briefly summarizes the shaky state of NT scholarship around Romans 9-11 by citing "expert" opinion ranging from Pauls' being "confused", to his being more "emotional" than "rational" to the exatent that his argument simply falls apart in a maze of OT citations, etc. The impression I get is that most modern scholarship has been either clueless or exasperated by this intensely labyrinthine passage in Romans. Hahn says he gained insight into he believes is Paul's underlying argument while reading from the early church fathers. Paul, Hahn discovers, far from being confused or irrational, is a genius of OT scripture, which he "deploys" with strategic and forensic brilliance within this particular passage. These tapes really opned up my mind to the bible. The study is way in-depth and more than worth the loot. I'm listening to it again this week. Colin |
