1 | scripture on why we go through trials | 2 Cor 12:10 | stjohn | 215540
Hi LovemyLord, "Why go through them?" Thats a good question. I would say because Jesus want's to build strong Christians characters with strong Christian character. We seldom learn anything of great value when things are going smoothly. We tend to just sit back and enjoy the ride. But God want's us to grow and learn to be fighters for truth and His Holy Word, and in spreading His Gospel of Salvation to the lost world. This is a tough job that takes mentally and spiritually tough people to do and do well. Paul writes in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians: "And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Cor 12:9-10 And in Romans 15:1: "Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves." Dear Brother Doc... How wonderful to see you up and running, my dear friend! :-) I hope all is as well as can be expected with you and yours. I would say: amen to our suffering, and to His Glory! Oh what a joy it will be to shed this old corrupt skin for the glory of God in us! Oh to be more Christlike; how I long for His righteousness! Pray for me brother, I could use an extra big dose of His divine purpose. And a good washing too! It's so nice to have you posting again my brother. :-) John |

Dear Brother John, Thank you for your encouragement. I have prayed for you and I continue to pray for you. Since you belong to the Lord, your progressive sanctification is assured. It certainly is not always pleasant at the time, but we have the promise of the Holy Spirit that it will definitely bear the "peaceful fruit of righteousness!" Consequently, I can assure you with utter confidence, that the desire you expressed for holiness and Christ-likeness is and will be granted. In Him, Doc |

5 | scripture on why we go through trials | 2 Cor 12:10 | stjohn | 215567
Dear Doc... Thank you so much for your prayers! I think perhaps it goes without saying, but I say anyway, that I remember you, (especially lately) in my prayers too. You know brother, I do know what you assured me of as far as assured scarification goes, but I do so love to be reminded of it! Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness," Heb 3:7-8 "For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world." Heb 4:3 "Consummatum est." John 19:30 Thanks Doc John |

Dear Brother John, Good verses! The one I had in mind when I wrote to you was, "All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness." (Hebrews 12:11 NASB) :-) In Him, Doc |
