As believers "everything is permissible for me" but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me" but I will not be mastered by anything. Our "goal" is to be Christlike, granted this is not immediate, as we are running a race. 1 Cor. 9:24-27...Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate(exercises self control) in all things..." My desire is not to condemn but encourage, for I too am but clay being molded day by day by the Potter. As I seek to encourage, it builds up my own desire (the holy spirit at work in me) to run the race, to be more Christlike, to excercise self control in all things...It is only by His strength and power we can even begin to overcome those things that bind us. As Paul wrote.. "...but I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." Let's run! |

Dear Saltnlight, The same Pau1 also wrote... Rom 7:15-21 "For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good." Which one of us does not find himself in this passage? It is Paul's confession of his own powerlessness over his sins. This passage should burn upon our hearts our absolute dependence on Christ. Oh! "Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? I am conviced that God alone is the agent of my sanctification. On one hand, I may be distressed over certain sins and pray that God will give me whatever it takes to overcome them. On the other hand, God knows exactly what areas of my life need changing BEFORE He answers my prayer. Rom 9:31 but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Rom 9:32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone Confess your sins and pray for grace to be set free from their bondage. Trust in Christ and what He has done, placing no confidence in your flesh. Rejoice in your adoption. Bro. John |
