1 | some people say you must speak in tongue | 1 Cor 12:4 | Hank | 143987
Searcher - This may come as a surprise to you: I speak in tongues! Yes, I speak, though not very well or eloquently, in my native tongue, which happens to be English. And I stumble my way in two other tongues, German and French, though remarkably poorly. But I don't engage in ecstatic babblings, not in everyday speech, and not in worship, praise and prayer to God. Neither did the little band of disciples engage in ecstatic babblings on Pentecost when they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues (Acts 2:4) but spoke instead in other tongues, known languages, so that the polyglotism of the crowd could be overcome and the disciples understood. (Acts 2:6). --Hank

Hi Hank, Isn’t it interesting that their message, in tongues, consisted of the Gospel message of Christ Jesus! Acts 2:11 (B) we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. Acts 2:21-24 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. The only Spiritual thing that a person with a dead spirit can understand is the Gospel message of Christ through the convicting work of the Holy Spirit John 16:7-9 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9Of sin, because they believe not on me; This couple with the following, 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. This all adds up to the following bit of truth as you obviously know! 1 Cor. 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. 1 Cor. 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Have a great day, CDBJ |
