Hi Morant61, I apologize for the mistake of writing the wrong name on the posting. I guess I was writing in such hurry I didnt realize I was writing the wrong persons name. On the other hand I want to make clear that is wrong to assume that one dont read the Book just by adding a message that has been done by The Message, which I know is not a Bible by the way, and I am saying this with all do respect to ALL my brothers, Sis and Friends. But I do have a question about what is so wrong about what The Message says? So if anyone can answer clearly and concrete answers supported by the Scripture about The Message posting that I used, I will greatly appreciate it. Another thing is that when I post something is because I have read it and read it again, I dont just post an answer or a comment just to see my name in here but because I REALLY want someone to be edified and grow as much as the rest of us in here. I do not proclaim my self as know it all, because no one knows everything in this world but GOD. We are just people that want to grow spiritually and help others with what we know, but at the same time learn with them as well, and if we are wrong be bigger man, admit and accept our mistakes and keep forward, not just criticize and make other feel little, instead we should help them, 1 Co 3:18 do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a fool so that he may become wise... James 3-NASB-13Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 17But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And dont jump all over them every time they do or say something you dont agree with. Rom 14:1 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his -their- opinions. Humble servant of God, God Bless You All, Jesus777 |

Hello Jesus777, First of all, I believe brother Tim did an excellent job of providing a strong foundation for why the Message may not be the best "version" to use for serious study. Second, scriptural support for any real translation might be a bit difficult, don't you think? A translation is generally done by well-qualified men of God (scholars) who have extensive training and knowledge in the original languages. The best intent, is to render accurately what the original langauages say. I would opt for the NASB, NKJV, or the ESV for this reason. There are also a couple of "expanded translations" such as Lockman's Amplified Bible and Wuest's Expanded Translation which are excellent. Their value is in attempting to more fully convey the nuances of original Greek in a more detailed way. They go beyond translation and more into interpretation, so one needs to be aware on this point. Thirdly, you are getting into the arena of verse-by-verse as apposed to a dynamic equivalency translation, i.e. the NASB vs. the NIV. The Message is more of a paraphrase (read: interpretation) than verse by verse or even being just a dynamic equivalent. It goes way beyond qualifying as a translation. I shy away from it and do not use it. The author, Eugene Peterson says of it, "The Message is a reading Bible. It is not intended to replace the excellent study Bibles that are available. My intent here (as it was earlier in my congregation and community) is simply to get people reading it who don’t know that the Bible is read-able at all, at least by them, and to get people who long ago lost interest in the Bible to read it again." In my estimation, serious Bible students look more to a verse-by-verse (NASB, etc.) and even into an understanding of the original languages-such as Greek- as an aid to better understand the scripture. The Message- while having some benefit- does not fall into that camp. It is more geared for the novice and shouldn't be considered as a translation because it is not! Hello BradK, Thank you for your fast response. But even thou you say is hard to support the previous question with verses you should have at least one thing to say on why the posting of The Message is wrong, and be able to support it with a verse. Like you just said The Message -is more geared for the novice- and but I never said it should be considered as a translation, but a simple way to explain things to a person that probably doesn’t understand big words. I do take under consideration ALL of the Versions of Studying Bibles as we can all see in here Bible gateway haves a very ample choice to choose from, for which I thank God for this blessing. But the same way there are various choices of Bibles to choose from, there are also many different opinions, and we All have our unique opinions and that doesn’t necessarily means that they are All going to agree with each other. Hello Jesus777, I was merely offering my opinion as a believer and student of God's Word for over 20 years! I don't recall that anyone ever said the posting using the Message was wrong. I certainly did not. Tim simply noted that it is not a translation. I think for this reason, it may not have been as well suited for answering the question on 1 Cor. 12:13. If I may, The Message in it's rendering of this verse, confuses and muddles the understanding because of it's verbosity. I don't feel that it is helpful:-) What we are seeking when a question gets into the technical- such as grammatical issues- is clear understanding. I hope this helps, BradK |
