1 | Physically Correct Communion? | 1 Cor 11:26 | Garathorn | 145630 | ||
Hey EdB, Coming from a tradition of communion being served every Sunday at morning worship, communion services can become fairly routine...i know that sounds awful, I work hard to focus on it every time. However, our Elders wanted to place a special emphasis on the blood, the bread, the body of Christ. It was hoped that breaking out of our regular 'routine' would invoke some self examination. I don't personally have a preference about how it's taken. As you said, it's the mind (and the heart) that counts to God, I'm sure. But anything that can be effective in waking up a sleepy church has to be considered, in my book. Tnx for replies. |

Garathorn Thank you. Your right communion can become almost common if we allow it and that is a danger as we see in 1 Cor 11. It is for this reason that I appreciate the focus on communion I see in the Catholic and some of the protestant orthodox denominations. I especially like to receive communion from my friend a Episcopalian bishop in his church, there is such awe and reverence. Each time it is like he is able to transport you right into Jesus’ presence as you partake of the elements. Interestingly his communion is found in the Book of Common Prayer. It seems some of those old codgers had it together when they came up with some of these prayers and church ordinances. Of course I'm sure there are many that will disagree and that is okay too. Preventing communion from becoming a habit or common is one of my biggest battles. That is why I would rather partake than serve. EdB |
