1 | Physically Correct Communion? | 1 Cor 11:26 | Garathorn | 145604 | ||
Greets all...Noob here. The question I have is regarding the physical form/practice of partaking in the Lord's supper or Communion. I come from a very traditional, 'Protestant' church (though I'm not protesting personally..j/k) and this issue has hit the fan recently amongst our older set as the leadership has tried to spark renewed interest/growth in the church. The church has always used tiny little wafers and a small plastic cup for the 'juice'. We wanted to try a 'break-and-dip' communion service but no dice! The idea hit the wall and the leadership backed down. Don't mean to come off like I don't have an opinion or Biblical angle on the issue...I'm just sincerely looking for additional views/scripture/other resources so I don't get bogged down in my own opinions. Some in our church think to do anything but 'drink' the cup is a one way ticket to hell. Sorry bout the sarcasm...I'm getting tired of the struggle. Tnx Much for any opinions |

Hello Noob, I've been in meetings where the 'bread' ranged from broken crackers to a loaf of unleavened bread to a loaf of leavened bread. And the drink was anything from grape juice in single-serving plastic cups to wine in a single cup that all shared. I've also done the break-and-dip. Quite simply (and from your profile I assume you know) there is no hard-and-fast rule concerning this except that we remember the Lord Jesus. My church tradition is among those called Plymouth Brethren. We have an hour-long meeting for the purpose of worship and remembrance ending in the bread and cup. After that we'll have the teaching meeting. My e-mail address is on my profile if you would like to discuss some of this off of the forum. Steve |
