Greetings resurrectioner! I do not believe that it is possible for a Christian to attain sinless perfection in his life while he is on earth. For instance 1 John 1:8 tells us, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." [NIV] Since 1 John was written to Christians (1 John 2:12-14, 19; 3:1; 5:13), it seems clear that Christians in mortal life should never make the claim to have attained perfection. Also, each one of us is born into the world with a 'sinful nature' that stays with us until we die (Ephesians 2:3). The presence of this sinful nature would seem to make any form of perfectionism impossible. In addition, the great saints of the Bible all recognized their own sinfulness (Isaiah 6:5; Daniel 9:4-19; Ephesians 3:8). If anyone could have attained perfection or live without sin, then certainly Isaiah, Daniel and Paul would have been contenders. But none of them succeeded. Why? Because they still had the sin nature in them that erupted in their lives from time to time. So to answer your original question: No, it is not possible to attain sinless perfection or to live without sin. However, that doesn't mean that we should not continue to strive for sinless perfection! (Matthew 5:48) Blessings to you, Nolan |

Nolan, I agree with you. I talked with someome who claimed to be without sin. I saw him jaywalk. So I asked him if he disobeyed the law of the land if it was sin. Answer, yes. I asked him if jaywalking was the law of the land. Answer, yes. Then I asked him if he just jaywalked? He answered with some excuse. I shook my head. I say it is impossible not to sin. S |
