1 | Why do we read the Old Testament? | Rom 6:14 | fritzygirl001 | 109665
I really believe in God, Christ and the Holy Spirit. Recently in our bible syudy at church we have been discussing the Old Testament.. Over and again when I ask a question we are told that none of it applys to today. Do we only read the OT to learn the lessons that the OT people learned?(I know we get the ten commandments from it) Please , anyone that reads this, I believe in the bible I praise God for salvation. I am just wondering.

Greetings fritzgirl001! We don't throw the baby out with the bath water and neither do we throw the Old Testmanet out because we have the New! When you are told that the Law does not apply today, it means that we don't observe the Law to obtain our salvation. Jesus fulfilled all of the Law's requirements and offered Himself as our Perfect Sacrifice to satisfy the demands of God for our sin. There are some excellent posts on this verse for you to read. 3 | Why do we read the Old Testament? | Rom 6:14 | fritzygirl001 | 109676
mommapbs.. I agree that we shouldn't throw out all the old laws. I just get a little confused by Matthew 5:18. Is Jesus saying we should follow the Old Testament Laws. Or is he talking about the Ten Commandments?
4 | Why do we read the Old Testament? | Rom 6:14 | Mommapbs | 109683
Greetings, in this instance, since Jesus is speaking to Jews, we would understand the Law to be what they understood it to be - the Mosaic Law or covenant. Yet as the Amplified points out, the Law forshadows what is to come, and until ALL is fulfilled, ALL of God's plans, (this mainly concerns Israel) not one mark or letter will disappear! Doesn't that give you great confidence when you read the Bible, knowing that God is true to His Word?!! Read the thread on Mt 5:18, see Reformer Joe's posts. Blessings, mommapbs |
