1 | How is Christ Jesus our Lord? | Rom 1:4 | Ray | 82364
Hi Tim, Here it is 04-23-03 and I'm talking about this verse with you in #82251. I thought that it makes more sense to talk with you here. We haven't changed our stances on Romans 1:4; you go with Spirit of Holiness and I've kept my copy with spirit of holiness. I just wanted to point out that the NKJ has "Jesus Christ our Lord" in verse 3 instead of in verse 4. This makes Jesus Christ born according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead. The problem though is that the "through Him" is a long distance from the "Jesus Christ our Lord". So I still go with the NASB. My Interlinear copies have "through whom" for verse 5 so I'll go with that. But I will stay with "spirit of holiness" because then the pronoun total for the long sentence of verses 1-7 will be divisible by three. I still feel that that is important and glorifies our triune God. I hope you didn't mind talking about the verses again, for I had forgotten that we had already discussed this "spirit of holiness". See the New Revised Standard Version. From the heart, Ray |

2 | Titus and Romans:comparable introduction | Rom 1:4 | Ray | 82439
Hi, I believe that Jesus baptized by the holy spirit [sic]. I believe that we should be filled with [the] holy spirit. Thus, I believe that the "spirit of holiness" of Romans 1:4 would be the most accurate rendering. I believe that the long sentence of Romans 1:1-7 in the Greek has pronouns of Deity that when totaled are divisible by three. I find that to be glorifing to the triune God and I praise Him in it. Now my question is this: Can this same situation of praise be accomplished by an accurate rendering of the long sentence of Titus 1:1-4? I have my own personal possible interpretation; what do you think? Can you find in this Greek sentence pronouns of Deity that total up to a number divisible by three? Would you want to try? Would you feel any need or desire to try? In other words, how far "off base" am I here? From the heart, Ray |

3 | Titus and Romans:comparable introduction | Rom 1:4 | justme | 82475
Ray: I am so glad the hear from you! You are in my prayers. Now to your question. Most all of Pauls intoductions have a simular format to a degree. Just because you asked, I did count the pronouns in both introductions. In Romans, I could not come up with a number divisible by three. In Titus, yes, I think maybe. So you got me, why would I want to do the mathmatics? The reason I desired to do so was because I thought there was some significant idea you were coming up with. Now about being off base, no. Scripture speaks to each of us in ways that the Holy Spirit wants to make us aware of. I have often read a passage several times and learned something new after reading it for years. For instance, last week when I was reading what happened on that day, the last week of Jesus, one day at a time, as the day passed. I noticed something I had overlooked. The donkey Jesus rode on had to have its mother with it. That opened a new idea for my understanding of this event. Why I never paid attention to that detail before I have no idea. This was a real gem to discover for me. I hope my answer is what you expected. Sometimes I get an answer to my questions and they are way off base. I hope I got close to what you were looking for. Blessings to you Ray! justme |

4 | Titus and Romans:comparable introduction | Rom 1:4 | Ray | 149213
Hi justme, It has been just over two years since we talked on this thread. Because I was led back to this thread, perhaps I should explain more of where I was coming from back then. Here is my personal interpretation of Titus 1:1-4 with a total of eighteen nouns and pronouns of Deity. "Paul, a bond-servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of those chosen of God and the full knowledge of His truth which is according to godliness, in the hope of the Eternal Life which God, who cannot lie promised long ages ago, but at the proper time He manifested, even His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior; to Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior." For Romans 1:1-7 I have twenty-one nouns and pronouns of Deity. I hope this finds you well. Thank you for your interest and encouragement in the past. From the heart, Ray |
