1 | Is speaking in tongues a necessity ? | Acts 2:4 | jilliebbean | 122013
I know several christians who claim to be able to speak in tongues and be slain in the spirit. Is this truly a gift of the spirit we still have today, or was that just part of the pentecost described in Acts 2? I am a born again christian and belong to a baptist church where the spirit is felt however, everyone remains upright and worships in english. Ive attended a revival before and accepted Christ there but I never could get so moved to speak in tongues or fall over. The spirit always brings tears of joy and I know God loves and accepts me as his own. The question I guess is then is what do I tell those who think if you dont have this ability you are not saved?
2 | Is speaking in tongues a necessity ? | Acts 2:4 | jcsav | 122014
Speaking in tongues is not an ability. It is a sign that one have received the Holy Ghost (Acts 2;4) and it follows believers (Mark 16:17). Slain in the Spirit is not a part of doctrine, I can not find that in the Scriptures. I was a Baptist myself. I can only tell you, that God have a lot more for you. If you seek, you will find. Make sure that they water Baptise in "Name of Jesus". But, if you are looking for a defence against the Truth, I can not help you.
