1 | Must we be Baptized to enter Heaven | John 4:14 | Ray | 103109 | ||
Hi khuck, I want to encourage you in your study of the things of God that you have done today. God is awesome and great. I know that I have two of your posts to answer so I'll respond to each one for ease of reference. You wrote of your belief that "this living water, is truly the Spirit." I, however, would say that if the Spirit is truly spoken of here then you should speak of Living Water. You wrote of considering whether "gift" should be capitalized in John4:10. I would say that Gift should indeed be capitalized if you also capitalized Living Water. May I be bold and speak about your commentaries? 1) "By this living water is meant the Spirit of Grace". Here is the situation that I spoke about above; If it meant the Spirit of Grace then it should be Living Water. But this writer speaks of the Spirit of Grace, the Spirit of grace and the graces of the Spirit. I don't see enough consistency for it helping us in deciding capitalization. It revolves around whether God is Love or love. (I believe that God is love). 2) "Living water": This quote is what I would see also. The writer sees the living water as as the spiritual realities, the things of God that lead to everlasting life. 3) The next quote speaks of living water and also Living Water and "his" grace. Here again, he would not be one that I would go to for help with capitalization. He spoke of Living Water and then mentions things that "it" would do. God is not an "it". I agree with his thoughts about "it" however, because I agree that the verse is talking about living water. (But not Living Water) 4) "Living water: This everlasting water, that is to say, the exceeding love of God..." I agree that the love of God is a big part of these things of God. 5) "Living water: that Christ gives --spiritual life--". I find this quote to be excellent and agree with it very much. I hope that my reactions to the quotes are seen as only how I see it; that they are given simply so that we can compare our thoughts with theirs. I see God as the Giver (Spirit) and the holy spirit (living water) as the gift. From the heart, Ray |
