Wow! terrib! Thank YOU! (and thank YOU Holy Spirit for bringing me to this forum with all these wonderful believers who also LOVE studying God's Word) You've helped me tremendously (as have all the earlier postings). I now see that there are several ways of defining the word even in the Greek form and it makes sense! I like your word, "Lifestyle" for the second meaning and the human inhabitants of the earth for the first, esp. because, as was pointed out, Christ died for the INDIVIDUAL LIFE of each inhabitant! That helps me to know it's right on target! I am most appreciative,WildOliveShoot asI wasn't even aware of how to find the word's meaning in that kind of depth (in it's original language)and am certainly going to be checking out that Blue Letter Bible Dictionary site!! THAT will be a tremendous help in my bible study. Tim Moran, you have such a clear way of teaching...definitely a gift of the Spirit...(so yes, terrib, I do believe I was Spirit led to this group!) Thank you for giving such clarity to it all. And last, regarding that Preacher; I was very upset and concerned with His comment. I've been a believer all my life and have loved God dearly, but it hasn't been until the past few years that I've begun to read/study the bible and I find it sooo uplifting and fascinating when I understand it. I must confess, when I don't understand it, I do pray and ask the Holy Spirit to lend me understanding, but I get very upset. Seriously, I feel like I just want to devour the Word because when I "get" something, ESP. something that seemed contradictory and I find that it indeed isn't and it's NOT a matter of personal interpretation, as in this case, it's in black and white (dictionary) as well as seen through Jesus' sacrifice for us! I truly got so much COMFORT from your last paragraph, terrib, because I'd found that scripture (when trying to find scripturally where that preacher was coming from) and I got so upset, thinking I'm doing something to block the flow of the Holy Spirit, that I didn't realize the obvious which you stated so well in your example. That was *excellent*. May God Bless You ALL with His Supernatural Favor and Smile upon you all the days of your lives :-) What a wonderful, WONDER FILLED Lord we serve. I practically cry with gratitude that He accepted ME into HIS family! (And naturally for the sacrifice of Jesus that allowed us to approach the throne in prayer, hand in hand with the Holy Spirit :) |

Starfire, If I may be bold and answer with those that responded to your question: Col 2:5(NASB) For even though I am (we are) absent in body, nevertheless I am (we are) with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good discipline and the stability of your faith in Christ. Col 2:6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, Col 2:7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Col 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Thank you for lifting our spirits also. Your brother, terrib |
