2 | Jesus questioned Peter's love? | John 21:15 | New Creature | 73023 | ||
I don't claim to have the answer however, the answer may possibly be found by looking in Greek text to see which type of love Jesus was referring to, and what type of love Peter was speaking of. John 21:15-17 could be rendered as follows - v.15 Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest(agape) thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I like (phileo) thee. v.16 Simon, son of Jonas, lovest (agape) thou me? He said unto him, Yea Lord; thou knowest that I like (phileo) thee. v.17 Simon, son of Jonas, likest (phileo) thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, likest (phileo) thou me? And he said unto him, Lord thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I like (phileo)thee.
