1 | Recognize Christ? | John 15:16 | Arnie | 46123
Just one last point, If we all believe it is Christ who revealed His doctrines to us, why so many different ideas and views of the same subject. Does He reveal one thing to one group, then reveal the opposite to another group? or is there another answer? Matt 24:4-5 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. KJV Many will come teaching in the name of Christ, teaching that Jesus is the Christ AND WILL DECEIVE MANY. Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. KJV Was it Christ on this horse or a counterfeit? |

2 | Recognize Christ? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46164
Christ revealed HIMSELF to us. There is a 1:1 correspondence between what He said, what He did and Who He is. It is we who make doctrines in an effort to codify Christ, to organize His truth in a systematic way. Of course, some people such as Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, can do this with authority, but it is we who must read and understand what Paul wrote. Think about how different people remember the same event. Each person has their own view of it and each person interprets what they experienced in the context of their human condition. For this reason, I believe we are unreliable witnesses apart from God, and this explains why there are so many different ideas about what the Bible teaches. Even so, there are several fundamental truths that all Christians hold, if they be true Christians. Such include the Trinity, the divinity of Christ, the humanity of Christ, the forgiveness of sins, His resurrection, ascension and glorification. Regarding the interpretation of Revelation, I respectfully leave that to those who are much better qualified to speak about apocalyptic writing. |

3 | Christ and doctrines revealed to us? | John 15:16 | Arnie | 46166
When Christ is revealed to us, are not the doctrines also revealed to us from Christ. I know men make doctrines and I think that could be a big part of the problem, where do the doctrines come from? Christ said in John 7:16 that the doctrines he taught were not His own but were DELIVERED to Him by the Father. So also Christ DELIVERED the same doctrines to us, they more then likely came through a human instrument, but they are not the human instruments doctrines, they were given to him by Christ who received them from the Father. John 7:16-17 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. KJV Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. KJV Which goes back to the question does God give different doctrines to different groups? I am questioning how can there be so many different doctrines and still all be from the mind of one God. Eph 4:3-6 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 4 | Christ and doctrines revealed to us? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46181
We do believe in progressive revelation, such as the foreshadowing of Christ in the OT followed by His Incarnation. In that sense, different groups (in time) receive different revelations. Perhaps it would help if you provided some examples of Bible doctrines that are "different" or somehow conflict in your mind. |

5 | Christ and doctrines revealed to us? | John 15:16 | Arnie | 46184
Dear Parable, I do beleive in progressive revelation, but any new revelation WILL NOT CHANGE any original revelation, it will only add to it. A good example is Christ bringing the spiritual dimension to the "law". Thou shalt not kill, now we are not to be angry, without a just cause, with our brother. It dosn't do away with the original, it magnified it. There are several examples of this in the "Sermon on the Mount" You need not go far for examples of different doctrines, Catholics have theirs, the Lutherans theirs, Methothist have theirs, Babtist have theirs, ect. Many practice the same doctrines but how do they get different teaching on those they differ so much on, Baptism - Immersion (age of understanding) or sprinkling (infant Baptism). This was part of the Gospel that was taught by Christ and the Disciples, "Repent and be Baptize, everyone of you. This seems to be a foundational principle. Did God the Father give both methods of Baptism? Does it make a difference? I think it does. There are many other major different beliefs, with this posting I'm not trying to argue that one or the other is right, I'm saying do they all come from the mind of God. I believe God gives us the truth initially, then as times goes by, we start compromising the truth, small change here and there, after a period of time we can't recognize what God gave us from the beginning. Rev 2:25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. KJV Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. KJV Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; KJV In Christian Love, Arnie |

6 | Christ and doctrines revealed to us? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46761
Yes, progressive revelation is the continuing truth of God to us, not revision or correction to what has already been shown. Perhaps Pauls has addressed your question about the origin of "different" denominational doctrines: Romans 12: 4-5 "4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." But, he also exhorts us to be ONE body, not divided: 1Cor 1:10 "I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought." He explains the reasons we have these divisions: 1Cor 3:3 "You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? 4For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?" And finally, what we can expect on the Day of the Lord, regardless our denomination: 1Cor3:10-11 "By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1Cor 3:13-15 "his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames." To me, this means we should accept the role or function the Lord has assigned to us in His Body, including our relationships with the other parts, such that we not only understand our interdependence, but work together for His glory, and not try to glorify our doctrines. By this I do NOT mean that we should accept all religions or anything like that, but rather only in regard to the Body of Christ as recognized by His life in and through us as believers in Him. |
