1 | What happened under the fig tree? | John 1:48 | teresaa | 176793
The bible is not specific about what happened under he tree. But i think that he was amazed because Jesus saw him in the Spirit, or in a vision. Perhaps he was far away from where Jesus was at, and Jesus replied "you believe believe because I saw you under a fig tree, you will see greater things than this" notice how Jesus only metions that He saw him. It is as if Jesus is saying. "Because I saw you sitting there you believe I Am the Son of God, well you ain't seen nothing yet"
2 | What happened under the fig tree? | John 1:48 | Bruce Killian | 176924
I think there is still more to this. I know 2 Chron. 16:9 says they eyes of the LORD range throught the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. But Nathanael does not know that Jesus had not observed him from a short distance. It had to be something private between Nathanael and God, but I can't figure out what it is. I have figured out what it means by angels ascending and descending on the son of man and I am extriemly excited about it. There was a ladder made fo the wandering stars marking the constellation of the Lamb. See http://www.scripturescholar.com/LambofGod.htm
3 | What happened under the fig tree? | John 1:48 | Bruce Killian | 176950
I have been thinking, meditating and praying on this subject for several days. My best explanation is Nathanael was praying under a fig tree where he thought he was alone. Because he was truthful, he said something that God liked and wanted to reward him for. Matt 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. God knowing he would pray sent Jesus to observe his prayer. Because Nathanael had journeyed to see John the Baptist who was calling for repentance and preaching of the one who would come after him, Nathanael's prayer might well have been a dedication of his life and a desire to serve the Messiah.

Hello BK, I have a three part question: 1. Why would God, as you stated, have to send Jesus? “God knowing he would pray sent Jesus to observe his prayer.” 2. Wouldn’t Jesus already know what was going on without being sent there? 3. What verses of the Bible, that you found, actually tells what Nathanael was doing under the tree. That’s a very nice sanctimonious story but I think he was digging for worms so he could go fishing in the Jordan River that day. While digging in the shade of the tree, where the ground hadn’t dried out, a gofer bit him on the finger and he looked around to see if anyone noticed because he was embarrassed, and no one was there. I can’t prove that either! Please advise, CDBJ |

Well that nice of you to admit to the truth about your opinion and that you realize how it looks without chapter and verse to bake it up. CDBJ |
