John I love you brother and I want only the best for you. However let me say your majoring in minors. There is so much more to God, Jesus Christ, and Christianity than election. Even Calvin had five petals on his tulip. We all know how you feel about election and you are entitled to that opinion, but now that we have heard it, discussed it, hashed it, rehashed it and rehashed it again let’s lay it down and move on. Your constant attempts to swing treads of this forum to election has made the subject odorous, and is alienating you from the rest of the forum. Make no mistake, no one is objecting to your believe in election, nor is anyone denying you the right or the ability to express your belief in election. What we are objecting too is your constant carping on the subject. Brother I was not judging another man’s slave. I was making an observation. I have learned in life that we must all drive down the road. Some of us seem to be able to set course and drive straight and rarely ever go into the ditch, others weave from one side to the other and many times end up in the ditch., then there are still others that drive from ditch to ditch. Dear Ed, Thank you for the expession of your brotherly love. Even my fraternal brother and I get on one anothers nerves occassionaly and yet I know he would give his own life to save mine. Thats just the way it is in families. Where I still think you have me wrong is in the area of proselytizing. I am not trying to make arminians into calvinsts per se, but am simply stating what I believe to be the "gospel truth". Calvin was a wonderful theologian. Even Joseph Aminius encouraged his students to study Calvin and not simply to learn how to refute him either! But the term "calvinism" is just a nickname for an entire system of theology. It is called "Reformed Theology" and has existed and grown for almost 500 years. It covers every book, chapter and verse in the Bible.(which is why I cannot comment on one word without being accused of pushing so-called calvinism) It has adherents the likes of John Knox, John Bunyon, George Whitfield, Jonathon Edwards, C.H. Surgeon, Matthew Henry, Martin Lloyd-Jones; Puritans, Pesbyterians and Baptists and on and on. It is not a new or strange theology. It is the historic theology of the PROTESTANT FAITH since we broke away from the tyranny of 16th century rule of popes over the church. Having said that, I do not hold to the infallibility of mere men. Sola Scritura is my battle cry! And I strive to argue on that basis period. Who can do othewise and still deserve to recieve a serious hearing from fellow christians? But when you have once been stigmatized and have a label attached to you by others, you can expect to be maligned and misunderstood. But, God be praised, my skin is growing thicker, (I just hope my head is'nt) and I am praying for grace that our God will season my words with love. Brother John |

John Again you missing the point the point isn't whether your a Calvinist or not. The point is you always come back to election. I have and use two copies of Institutes of the Christian Religion one a hard copy and the other electronic. I use them extensively. I guess from that point you could say I'm a student of Calvin myself even though I disagree vigorously with some of his beliefs. However, I rarely if ever quote him or press his principles. The point your missing is this, everyone knows how you feel. There are some that agree and some that disagree. That will probably never change. What is the sense of you keeping on telling them how you feel when there is so much more to talk about? The subject of “election” has been discussed let it go and move on to the next topic. EdB |

Dear Ed, The reason I keep going back to subjects that are treated of in TULIP is beause they are found throughout Scripture. You might as well ask me not to mention God. I can not, I should not and I will not keep silent, if by my speaking I feel an opportunity exists to glorify God and magnify Christ. Ed, I know you well enough to say: That would be the last thing you would want me to do either. It's just that you don't really know me well enough yet. Peace, John |

John You remind me of the bus boy that was witnessing for Jesus instead of clearing tables. When he got fired he claimed they were persecuting him because he was witnessing for Jesus. No they fired him because he wasn't doing his job. Somehow you aren't seing what I'm trying ot tell you. You not glorifing God your arguing your point of view over and over and over and over and over. And your using the same arguments over and over and over and over. EdB |

Dear Ed, Until you find it in your heart to drop this belligerant critisizem of me, I must ask you to refrain from communicating with me altogether. I have gone the extra mile and my duty before God has been done. I will pray for you and ask that you pray for me as well. But our continuing difficulties profit nothing and do not edify man or magnify the Lord. Your Brother in Christ, John |

John That was not belligerent criticism, that was a brother trying to open the eyes of another brother. If I offended you in any way please reexamine what I said in that light. John I was sincerely trying to help you not criticize you. However since you can not or will not receive what I’m saying I will do as you ask and will stop communicating with you. John I have been praying for you. If you only knew how much. EdB |
