1 | Does the Father have a God? | John 1:1 | STTIL | 137616
no that is not what I am saying. I said that Socrates expounded on the immortality of the soul and that Justin used that to explain to the Greeks about the eternal life of the new birth each Christian receives when they are born again. Don't read into what I am saying what you think I am saying.

Sttil, Okay, that's clear. I'm trying to not read into what you say; I'm trying to understand. From your reply, I see that you are describing how a parrallel, contemporary concept was used to make a mystery intelligible. However, I don't believe the mystery owes anything to the explanation. Have you read anything by N.T. Wright, particularly "The Resurrection of the Son of God"? He is brilliant on this theme. Colin |

3 | Does the Father have a God? | John 1:1 | STTIL | 137637
The mystery doesn't owe anything to the explanation. Aroung the time of Justin Martyr, the Christians were being pursecuted, Justin was just trying to make it better for the Christians. I can't say that I have read anything by N.T. Wright, the name doesn't ring a bell. I'll look into it. |
