Easy God had to turn his back on Jesus. In Mark 15:30-35 it talks of the sky being black and a shadow over the land. The reason for this is that God is Holy, God cannot be close to sin hence the reason WE need forgiveness so when Jesus died he became sin he was covered with it. Now you have to understand that Jesus had never in his entire life been seperated from his father but when He became sin God had to turn away from Jesus because of the sin. But as we all know when he went down to hell he conquered sin b/c he was inoccent and was in a word reunited with his Father.

Draco04 You made the statement, "The reason for this is that God is Holy, God cannot be close to sin hence the reason WE need forgiveness so when Jesus died he became sin he was covered with it." Can you provide any scriptural backing for saying God can't be close to sin? I thought while we were yet in sin God reached out for us? Also isn't Satan the empitome of sin? And isn't he the accuser of the saints? Doesn't he have to gain entrance into God's presence to accuse us? EdB |

I have looked but i cannot find scripture that says God cannot be close to sin at least not in those words. It speaks of God being righteous and how we cannot come close to God when we are in sin. That is why the curtain was set up, for anyone who entered the pressence of the Lord with sin within them they dropped dead. And yes satan is the epitome of sin but satan doesnt have a personnal relationship with God, God does not live within him. Jesus on the other hand had God living within him. So when Jesus took on the sin of this world that relationship, which He had had since he was born was lost He had thought his father had forsaken Him.

Draco04 Your right there isn't a verse or even a hint that God has to turn His back to sin. When David the Psalmnist wrote the Psalm he was in sin did God turn from him or did God reach out through the prophet Nathan in love? Jesus in his quote of this psalm was once more reaching out to us in love. In in the agony of death itself His thought was on us and he was using this quote to once more point to the very psalm that described what was taking place. Notice also in verse Psalm 22:24 "For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard. This clearly shows us God never left Jesus but as he promised would never leave or forsake us in our time of need. This should be a comfort to every Christian alive even when we aren't living as we should, God is always near, always ready to reach out to us, always raady to welcome us back. The whole idea God turned his back on Jesus is built on faulty assumations, the first being the Father and Jesus both being the One God are able divide. The second that God would forsake His Son at the very instant His Son needed Him most. EdB |
