1 | Selling all required to gain salvation? | Mark 10:21 | Searcher56 | 12689
The man to whom these words were spoken certainly found them hard. He was the rich man who came to Jesus and asked what he should do to inherit eternal life (vs 17). Jesus said, "Well, you know the commandments," and mentioned those which sum up one's duty to a neighbor. That keeping the commandments was the way to life is stated in the law itself: "Keep my decrees and laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD" (Lev 18:5). The man answered that he had kept all these from his youth (vs 20). So isn't keeping the Law enough gain eternal life? Is selling all you have required to gain eternal life? Bonus question: Why did Jesus fee; a love for him? |

2 | Selling all required to gain salvation? | Mark 10:21 | Santaanacanyon | 148029
This passage is not about wealth. It is about the man's question regarding what he must do to inherit eternal life. Christ's first answer used only SIX of the ten commandments; the one's that deal with our relationship with men. Christ's second answer was the first FOUR commandements, but what Jesus was doing was stating them in PERSONAL APPLICATION to this ONE individual. "Selling All..." was not required for eternal life, but obeying the first four commandments was, which he was not doing. Christ said there was ONE thing he still lacked (v. 20), and that was God, not religion or self righteousness. Important note: This man was the only person who conversed with Jesus, and walked away worse off than when he arrived.
