"and on their heart I will write it" NASB Jeremiah 31:33 "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. "It takes unacceptable theological legerdemain to conclude that when God writes the Torah (law) on hearts he changes it into something other than the Torah" (Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel, David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., 1988)! matt517 |

Does moral law in 10 Commandments apply? There are 613 laws in the Torah (Pentateuch). As I understand it, not all of the 613 apply to all people in all places. For example, there are laws that apply only to women. Some apply only to the priests. Obviously civil laws applied to the people of Israel when they were in the land of Israel, from the time of Moses until 70 A.D. Does the moral law contained in the Ten Commandments still apply? All but one of them are repeated in the New Testament. Jesus places much emphasis on them. Paul in his writings speaks of them, as does James in his. If they did not apply today, then we would be "free" to commit adultery, lie, steal, murder, etc. Without the Law people would be in idolatry or doing things that harm others. Again, I am not saying that we must keep the Law as a means of being saved. I've never said that. According to the Bible, no one was ever saved by keeping the Law. "The just shall live by faith." He who finds life will find it by trusting. AMPLIFIED Matthew 5:19 Whoever then breaks or does away with or relaxes one of the least [important] of these commandments and teaches men so shall be called least [important] in the kingdom of heaven, but he who practices them and teaches others to do so shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. matt517 |
