1 | Is it God's will to tithe in pres. time? | Mal 3:8 | Makarios | 22458 | ||
Greetings Spoken Power! According to verses such as Malachi 3:8 and Acts 4:32-5:11, it is God's will to continue to tithe. The New Testament concept for tithing is that of 'grace' giving. We are to freely give as we have been freely given to. And we are to give as we are able (2 Cor. 8:12). For some, this will mean less than 10 percent. But for others whom God has materially blessed, this will mean much more than 10 percent. I believe that the starting point for having a right attitude toward giving to the church is that we must first give ourselves to the Lord. The early church is our example: "They gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will" (2 Cor. 8:5 [NIV]). Only when we have given ourselves to the Lord will we have a proper perspective on money. We also read in Romans 12:1, "Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship." The first sacrifice we make to God is not financial. Our first sacrifice is that of our own lives. As we give ourselves unconditionally to the Lord for His service, our attitude toward money will be what it should be. God is not interested in your money until He first has your heart. Some believers who are unreservedly committed to God may only be able to afford giving 2 or 3 percent of their income. But others might be able to afford 25 percent or more. Whatever amount you tithe, just remember that God primarily looks upon your heart. Blessings to you! Nolan |

Nolan,Another extract. What do you think? Give offerings unto the LORD (Deut. 12:6,11,17). For your tithe belongs to God and your offering is your seed that you want God to multiply back to you (Ezek. 36:29). An offering has a specific assignment that you want carried out. An offering is a seed of the fruit you want. The seed is what we give, and the harvest is what we keep. If we give nothing then we will receive nothing. For nothing multiplied by a million is nothing. Paul said to those who gave, “For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities.” (Phil. 4:16). “Not that I seek a gift but I seek the fruit multiplying to your account” (Phil. 4:17 Green Interlinear). God does not measure the amount we give but how much we have left. If what I give does not move me, then it will not move God. When Jesus was sitting near the collection box a “poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”” (Mark 12:42-44). The money she gave moved her and thereby moved Jesus to make this comment. For an uncommon seed produces an uncommon harvest. Why? Because we are using a higher level of faith to give it. If you earned 2,000 a month, would you need more faith to offer 1,000 or 10? Obviously 1,000. We don’t pay God for a miracle in the same way we don’t exchange an apple seed for an apple tree. God is not impressed by the amount of money we give, He is only pleased with the level of faith we use. Two things please God; The amount of faith we use (Heb. 11:6) and giving with a cheerful heart (2 Cor. 9:7). |

Greetings again Appleseed! Thank you once again for sharing yet another part of this book with me! Would you mind telling me the title and/or author of this book? It seems interesting, and I will tell you my 'reaction' to this part of the book as well.. I have now read through the entire excerpt, and my reaction here is: You should not believe any part of it. None of the conclusions that are mentioned in this 'book excerpt' are based upon Scripture, and the Scripture that is quoted has been 'mis-quoted' and used to fit the author's theories, rather than studying the cited Scripture within its context. There is nothing within the whole of Scripture that can support the claims that have been written by the author of this book. I thank you for asking my view, once again, on the book, and I have truthfully spoken to you my reaction to part of that book that you have decided to share with me. If it is Ok with you, then I would like to know the title and author of the book, if you don't mind. :) Thank you, and I look forward to future correspondence with you! Blessings, Nolan |
