1 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | Lionstrong | 153260
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. This may not be a proper Study Bible Forum question for discussion, but I'll leave that up to you: What's the difference, if any, between loving God's word, the Holy Bible, and loving God? I'm of the opinion that there's none, because all we know of God is found in or "by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture." God is what His word says He is. How can one love God and hate His word. Or, conversely, how can one hate God and love His word? Further, does the word itself make a distinction between loving God and loving his word? Jesus says, "If you love me you will keep my commandments." (John 14:15) Heb 3:10 "THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS'; (the writer of Hebrew citing Psalm 95:10) |

Can't have one without the other lionstrong. If you love God you will love and cherrish His word. Look how much God loves it: Isa 55:11 (KJV) So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. He sounds really passionate about it doesn't He. After He said this, He continued preparing it for you and me to have personally a copy. Got mine right here close |

That's right! You can't have one without the other, but that's not quite what I mean. Is the "other" really the other; are they not the same? If the word of God expresses the mind of God then to the extent that we know the word of God we know the mind of God. If we know the mind of God, then we know God. So, to restate my question, is loving God the same as loving His word as it is contained solely in the Holy Bible alone? If not, how is loving God different from loving His word? Ps 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; (and so is God) The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. (and so is God) Ps 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; (and so is God) The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. (and so is God) Ps 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; (and so is God) The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. (and so is God) Ps 19:10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; (and so is God) Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. (and so is God (Ps 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD is good!")) Ps 19:11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; (and so does God) In keeping them there is great reward. |

4 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | meusing | 153314
The best illustration of this is the story of a young woman who tried to read a book a friend had recommended to her. She found it very boring and put it aside. A few weeks later she went to a party and met the author of the book. He made quite an impression on her. (So much so that a year later she married him). Anyway, she went home and reread the book and was fasinated by it. The difference? She had met the auhor of the book and it was an insight ito his mind. The Bible is precious to us since we know the Author and we Know more about the Author through His word. |
