1 | ESV opinion poll | Ps 119:105 | Makarios | 33830 | ||
Greetings Steve, I appreciate you providing some 'background' on your friend, who no doubt takes a liberal view of Scripture and translation. I believe that the first paragraph pretty much explains his position, "there is no single English Bible version with which I am totally satisfied." With that sentence in mind, we can hereby view all of his forthcoming comments about translations in the same regard. I, for one, pray that you are not so easily disenchanted with the Bible that you embraced as a Christmas present! In my opinion, the ESV is a new standard of excellence with its usage of English! Blessings to you, Makarios |

Makarios, I greatly cherish my ESV. Pronoun usage and idiomatic phrases from an originating language really add depth. They give understanding to the writer's history and culture. I remember, when taking French in high school, the instructor telling us about idioms, but I always sought to find the literal meaning of the phrase. But I don't mind a little work to figure all that out. :-) Steve |
