Dear Mrs. Dean, Ours is a study of the text of Scripture. The venue of our communication is also text. I read a recent study that in about three quarters of the cases on the Internet, that people incorrectly interpreted emotional content of text based messages (email, forum posts, etc.). That should be a caution to us all -- we've less than a twenty-five percent chance of accurately interpreting emotion in one another's posts. I've participated for a while now on this forum. I believe that the majority of people who answer questions are doing so because they love the Lord, His Word, His sheep, and the truth. I'd also say that they have a high degree of compassion for the lost. Nevertheless, a study Bible forum is about study of the Bible. What we want to do is give affirmation to people in the discipline of sound Biblical interpretation. Warm fuzzies have their place, I suppose... and some folks will be more demonstrative and effusive in their language than others. Nevertheless, you might want to start with the presumption that if someone answers a question or posts a reply, it is being done out of love. In Him, Doc PS Sorry for previously misnaming you. My eyes aren't perfectly serviceable. |

I understand that it is very difficult to interpret text's emotion. I'll try to keep that in mind as I read the posts on here. I was new to the forum and did not realize that I could do a search and see all the other posts on the subject. I had search by putting in the verse at the top instead a the search, so I did not see all the posts. I'm afraid that the reply I got pretty much telling me that this had already been discussed. . so I should have done a search and not posted came across rather kurt (is that the right word??) I'm sure you did not mean it that way. . so I guess this is a learning experience. We must all remember that the person writing the post may not mean it the way it comes across. . and they need to realize that the person reading the post may read it very differently that it was meant. We should all be very careful. So, thank you so much for your reply and clearing this up. And the warm and fuzzies. . . well, I'll just have to get them from the Lord. :-) | ||||||
