Justme I used the NASB for years and the NASB Updated when it came out for personal study. However I found that when trying to read aloud from either of the NASBs, because of sentence structure, I often would get tongue tied. Therefore when the ESV was announced I was very excited. To me it flowed and I could read aloud from it better. I also like how the were able to retain much of the beauty of expression and poetry. However they do something I greatly dislike. In verses that are in question as to their authenticity they removed them. Example Acts 8:37 I don't care for that! I think the verse should be included and a notation made in the margin or footnote to address the issue, but to me eliminating them is the wrong thing to do. I have settled on the NKJV which I find to be very literal and sentence structure flows in such a way it is very easy to read aloud from. I now use the ESV only for comparative research. I'm in the process of eliminating the NASB, because of the stance Lockman has taken with some issues on this forum. Any new purchases will be NKJV or the NLT. I find the NLT to be very useful almost like a brief commentary of the Bible it is written so clearly. EdB |

EdB: I enjoy your scholarly input. I am very much aright brained thinker and some how the Updated NASB seems to touch my heart, or should I say the wording and sentence structure fits my thinking process best. I like Psalm 139 in the Updated NASB, verse 3 the words flow like a new born lamb's wool. "You scrutinize my path and my laying down, A are intimately acquainted with all my ways." The very special way the words are put together are quite personal for me. What ia so amazing for me is the wide choice of Bible translations we English speaking people have. Especially sad is how many peoples have no scripture in their native tongue. This is indeed a fact we as Christians in America will have accountability for having Bible illiterate Christians. There is no excuse for us to say we did not have the Word in our heart and lives. I re-read your Profile again. I was not aware that Lockman had any problem with anything you have written. AS far as I am concerned we have many views represented in the forum, some which make my hair stand up. WOF has not much creditability in my book. That subject has been a thorn in my flesh several times. Now I simply avoid any dialogue on WOF. Now watch any time I say I wont do something I wind up doing just what I said I would not. Sounds a little like Paul, not doing what he should, but knowing what he should do. I think you make choices that are best for you, and you have the defined reason as to why, which I think is very good. Most Christians I believe follow the sheep with the loudest baha, right over the edge of the mountian cliff, playing follow the leader. I doubt anyone will ever say that about you. Blessings and Peace. justme |

Justme I don't think Lockman has ever had any problem with what I wrote. However I have problems with what Lockman allows to be written on the forum. We have people painting God with the same brush Islam uses calling it authentic Christianity and Lockman allows it. EdB |

EdB:I agree with your opinion that syncinrotism is a fact. However, good or bad we do have the freedom of speech, and the requirement to give respectful, ansewers. I don't think it is Lockman persa that makes the ruels as the the group that formed the forum, and their choice in managing or creating the guidlines. I am sure some might say I am not one to just accept anyones word I want sourses and proof before I will agree to some issues. What you say is also true for some demonations as well. The acceptence of sexual imoral life styles in the church leadership and tollertaing it's members in out defience of Scripture is openly common. I just can't imagine Sodom being much worse. As a teen ager in the fifties, most Baptist churches preached about sin, like smoking, drinking, gambling, movies, dancing, and fornication. I can't remember the last time I have heard any sermon specficly naming thes sins and calling for repentance. Can you? Well I get of my soap box now. Have a happy fathers day! justme |
