Thank you Makarios, That was pretty complete. I often have a big explaining to do during December, because I have always contended that we are not celebrating His "birth date" but the fact that He came into the world. But I have never looked into the real probability that this date would be consistent with the Holy Conception of the Lord. Thank you for shedding great Light on this. (Please do not take this to be an argument, please don't) I have one more question. In September there is a Jewish Holy Day called the The Feast of Trumpets or Rosh Hashanah, I have not studied this in depth although I believe it to be the anniversary of the creation. I have often heard (having no opinion but now a great interest) that this day has much to do in accordance with the Christ and that many believe it has some regard to his return. Can I impose upon you to share any insight that you may have regarding this Feast or Holy Day? Please know that there is no malicious intent, just a healthy curiosity. God Bless and keep you is my prayer, -Kathy |

Greetings Kathy, Don't worry, I have not been offended by any of your posts! :-) I like the statement of faith that you gave in your User Profile. As for the "Feast of Trumpets" (Leviticus 23:23-25; Numbers 29:1-6), which is today known as the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah, "the beginning of the new year" but not so called in the Bible)- taking place in September/October according to today's calendar- was a feast whose purpose was so that Israel could present herself before the Lord for His favor. This feast was characterized by a blowing of trumpets; that is, commemorating a memorial to God because of His goodness towards Israel, marking a solemn, joyful and urgent occasion, petitioning God to remember His goodness to the Israelites in the year to come. This feast, happening on the 1st of the seventh month, consecrated the seventh month (Sept/Oct) as a sabbatical month. The Feast of Trumpets finds its fulfillment in Christ in Matthew 24:31.. "And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." The Feast of Trumpets would prophetically refer to the future regathering of long dispersed Israel. "23:24 trumpets. The feast of trumpets, vv. 23-25, is a prophetic type and refers to the future regathering of long-dispersed Israel. A great interval elapsed between Pentecost and the feast of trumpets, answering to the period occupied in the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church Age. Study carefully Isaiah 18:3; 27:13 (with contexts), and Joel 2:1-3:21 in connection with the trumpets, and it will be seen that these trumpets, always symbols of testimony, are connected with the regathering and repentance of Israel after the Church Age is ended. This feast, which was held on the first day of the seventh month, Tishri, was immediately followed by the day of atonement." (1) I do not see any Scriptural evidence that would associate this Feast with the creation of the world. Dearest Makarios, Thank you so much! I did read the references that you posted and found both chapters of Joel to be very much in line with regathering Israel. And God's ability to save us. (although it seems mostly from ourselves (chuckle) Even after all of these years it is wonderful to me when I see the word confirm itself. The Feast of Trumpets has always been over my head (obviously) when put in regard to the Church. I do not know why I was told that it was a creation issue, but now I have a whole other area to study. I have a lot of questions when it comes to Judaism, and it's customs, because I oftentimes find them linking to Jesus. Thank you again for shedding Light... -Kathy |
