1 | One qadosh or two for "Holy One"? | 2 Kin 19:22 | Morant61 | 142199 | ||
Greetings Chancellor! I am very rusty with my Hebrew! But, the best I can determine there is only one 'qadosh' in 2 Kings 19:22. It is the adjective 'Holy', and 'one' is listed in italics in the verse to indicate that it is not actually present in the text. So, the best way to view it would be to simply say that 'gadosh' has been translated as 'Holy One'! I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hi, brother Tim... Traditionally Jews spell this "kodesh." Thus, they will refer to the shem-ha kodesh (holy name). When they want to emphasize the word they will say kodesh kodesh, for example when they speak of the temple. I believe in scripture this is usually translated as "most holy." From my exposure to Jews I understand that repeating an adjective is a way of increasing its significance in whatever context you are speaking -- somewhat similar to the way we use "really" or "very." Thus, in Isaiah 6 when God is spoken of as kodesh kodesh kodesh, it is the ultimate expression of very, very, very holy! Of course, I don't have the ancient Hebrew education that you do. Mine is only picked up by osmosis. :-) Besides that, I may be completely off topic here. :-) In Him, Doc |
