1 | Truly searching for a prophet? | Job | charis | 32341
Dear Jensen, Peace to you in the name of Jesus! Are you truly searching for a prophet? What do you want to hear? The weather report for next Christmas, perhaps? :-) Ranting about wrath to come? That God loves you? Or maybe the details of the 'two witnesses' or the 'seals' or the 'horsemen?' What about the exact date, time and location of Jesus' return. Brother, what is is you want to hear from a true prophet? I you ask me what I want to hear, I would say that I want to hear the word of God, living and active, separating wisdom and foolishness, the true and the false. This word would be edifying, exhorting and consoling, and would serve not only me, but all of His church. I already know much about the future days, they are written in the Bible. But I would like to know how I am to serve God and His people, and maybe where and to whom. God may quicken His servants to give holy guidance in these areas. Then again, maybe He will not, at least not yet. If you think about it, every shepherd should have at least a little sensitivity to the mind of God for the flock entrusted him. Is this not prophesy, and desirable, and pleasing to God? Friend, I sense a frustration, maybe even an anger in your post to EProphet. Yet I find little in his post that is offensive. Your final warning was either too melodramatic, or just plain rude and uncalled for. I guess only you know which. (unless, of course, I am a prophet! :-)) You may want to come to Yokohama sometime in your quest! Peace and joy in Christ Jesus, charis |

2 | Truly searching for a prophet? | Job | Searcher56 | 32848
charis ... There are people looking for a prophet, both types. One who forthtells (preacher) and one who foretells (the future). If the forthteller preaches another gospel, he should be no longer listened to ... as well as one who says something will happen and does not. There are those with the gift of prophecy (preaching). But, we should not depend on them for hearing/ reading the Word. We should not hear them to tickle our ears. These are two reasons why people are looking for a prophet. Others want to know the future, so they go ask someone. All of this is bad. S |

3 | Truly searching for a prophet? | Job | charis | 32851
Dear Searcher56, Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus! At the end of your post you write, "All of this is bad." If you are saying that we should not listen to the preachers of the Word, I disagree. Though we must all read and study the Bible, even the saved need to hear the preaching of the Gospel. The preached word is not only the Gospel of salvation, but the Good News of present and eternal life in Christ Jesus. As to wanting to know God's direction for their individual life and a vision for the future of their local church, I cannot find fault. Of course I do not think that we should dabble in fortune-telling or have an inordinate interest in asking for details. But we should all seek a vision from God, and He still does use His servants to give guidance and direction in order that we may serve Him and His people. My friend, it is our attitude that is the problem, in my opinion. If we ask with wrong motives, then you are correct. If we prophesy, preach, or misuse the gifts, then God is not pleased. In Christ Jesus, charis |

4 | Truly searching for a prophet? | Job | Searcher56 | 32913
Charis, I am saying that it is bad if we want to listen to someone: - preach another gospel - after they make a false prediction - to tickle our ears - for the sole source for our soul food We should listen to preachers ... have have a gift, knowledge, understanding and wisdom. I agree with what you say ... I wanted to put a limit on who we listen to. S |
