The question is NOT to argue any theological aspects of the Old Testament dietary laws. Theology aside, were there any strictly dietary, nutritionally-based reasons for them? Do these dietary laws have any nutritionally-based value today in light of what we supposedly know about what foods are good and what foods are bad for us? --Hank | ||||||

At the time of the Old Testament, I don't know if they realized that rabbits can have a worm that can cause disease in humans, but by the law prohibiting the eating of rabbit, the Israelites didn't have to worry about it. The same with pigs. If in the right (or I should say wrong) invironment, they also can, without being thoroughly cooked, cause sickness. | ||||||

Even if pigs are thoroughly cooked that simply means that one is eating the cooked trichinosis worm, the cysts of the young and does not deal with any of the other problems with eating pork (btw, I used to love pork chops!). A search of the web will reveal a large number of sources as to the medical value of following the dietary laws of the Bible. A local Christian church that does keep them converted a Jew who was in bad health because he was not following the health laws of the Bible and they pointed that out to him that that was the cause of his ill health--he became intirgued and converted to Christianity. | ||||||
