Hello Quester, I support the other answers but would like to add more. My references are to the text of the King James Authorized Version. When a figure of speech is employed(like in Gen3:15) it is for the purpose of expressing the truth more impressively: and is intended to be a figure of something much more real than the letter of the word. The one used in verse Gen 3:15 is for the purpose of emphasising the truth and the reality of what is said. When it is said in verse 3:15,"thou shalt bruise His heel", it cannot mean His literal heel of flesh and blood, but suffering, more temporary in character. When it is said(verse 15),"He shall crush thy head", it means something more than a skull of bone, and brain, and hair. It means that all satan's plans and plots, policy and purposes, will one day be finally crushed and ended, never more to mar or to hinder the purposes of God. This will be effected when satan shall be bruised under our feet (Rom 16:20). This again, will not be our literal feet, but something much more real. The bruising of Christ's heel is the most eloquent and impressive way of foretelling the most solemn events; and to point out that the effort made by satan to evade his doom, then threatened, would become the very means of insuring its accomplishment; for it was through the death of Christ that he who had the power of death would be destroyed; and all satan's power and policy brought to an end, and all his works destroyed(Heb 2:14, 1John 3:8, Rev 20:1-3,10). Hope this helps further your understanding of the letter from the Father. Peace in Faith and Hope, Casiv |

Casiv I too agree you response was a good one. However you did say one thing that Satan had the power of death, and though he might, it was still subject to God’s control. I refer to Job 1:12 where God allows Satan to afflict all that was around and belonged to Job but not afflict Job himself. Then in Job 2:6 God tells Satan he may afflict Job but he must spare Job’s life. I think this clearly shows God retained and controlled the power of life and death. In fact the mood and voice of the whole dialogue between God and Satan in these first few chapters of Job shows God is very much in control and Satan is still very much subservient and answerable to God. So while it can be said Satan can take a life (only in accordance to God’s will) I think the power of death was still very much controlled by God. Your thoughts? EdB |

Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless HIM WHO HAD THE POWER OF DEATH, THAT IS, THE DEVIL. (Emphasis added, Hebrews 2:14, NASB) | ||||||

Radioman I'm not denying Satan could kill someone. Jesus told us "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 I'm just saying from all appearances found in Job the permission or allowance comes from God. EdB |

EdB: And I am not denying that the devil and every power in the universe is subject and subordinate to the sovereign power of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I was merely clarifying what the Scripture actually says. But that in no way contradicts, but merely clarifies. Thank you, brother, for all the accurate, informative postings that you consistently submit. Radioman |

Radioman Let's also think about this. Is Hebrew 2:14 talking physical death? Spiritual death? or both? We as humans always look to the physical first, while God, Jesus and spiritual beings always look to the spiritual first. When Jesus or God spoke of physical death they nearly always add the words death of the flesh. Do you think we dwell on physical death far more than we should and do you think when we read death we always assume physical death? EdB |

comment.........Hello, Gal 3:14 - That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal 6:8 - For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Also, please read Matt 10:28 Peace in Faith and Hope, Casiv |

Casiv Now see your getting a little out there. All this scripture is nice but hwo doesn it relate to what we are talking about? Or am I to draw a conclusion from the scripture and conclude it is what you meant? Casiv this is why your having problems talking to people just giving scripture while they are good and certainly enlightening don't carry much of a conversation about the subject matter. EdB |

Yes Ed you're right, The point of my comment is my belief that through the Spirit is life and through the flesh is death and death is not to be feared. Regarding Heb 2:14, Jesus did not die, if he did die then the Father would not be the Father of the Living. My opinion. Peace, Casiv |
