362 | Should the Bible be free? | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 202536
Hi imreoux; Welcome to the forum! This is really not a bible study question, though I think it has merit, so, I will entertain it without followup, so as not to encourage such. The copyright restrictions on the Bible are there to guard against those that would copy and sell them for profit. You or anyone else may freely read, study, copy and distribute, The Word of God, as much as you want! I have never nor do I believe you will ever hear that the use of God's Word, would be encumbered by strict copyright rules, other then for sale or profit. So feel free my friend, use, read, study, and give out the Word of God as much as you like, any and all may be used to your hearts desire and delight! That is, those that are accepted as orthodox. :-) As to breaking mans law: There are times when God's instructions trump mans laws! Mark 16:15 "And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." Thats God speaking, by the way. Who are you going to listen to? Note: to your question on this; I believe the reason the KJ is not under copyright law, is that, it has been around so long, it is indeed in what is called the "public domain". Just like some songs can be sung and recorded by anyone without paying someone else, because that someone, is long gone. God bless John |

363 | Driven our from where? | Gen 4:14 | stjohn | 202532
Hi Thomas: Here is a commentary by John Gill, that I believe you will find insightful. Also, may I suggest a link to his FREE online commentary on the whole Bible, I believe it will help you with your many good questions, It's good to study and find these things on our own. :-) God bless you in your studies. --"Ver. 14. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth,.... Not from being upon the earth, or had chased him out of the world as a wicked man is at death, but from a quiet settlement in it, and from society and converse with the inhabitants of it; and especially he was driven from that part of it, where he was born and brought up, and which he had been employed in manuring; where his parents dwelt, and other relations, friends, and acquaintance: and to be banished into a strange country, uninhabited, and at a distance from those he had familiarly lived with, was a sore punishment of him:"-- http://www.freegrace.net/gill/ God bless John |

364 | texture of the ground. | Gen 4:12 | stjohn | 202530
Hi Thomas: The ground was already cursed do to Adam's sin, (Gen 3:17-18, but because of Cain's sin, another curse was added specifically and personally, just for him. Wherever he (Cain) would go form then on, the earth would not easily yield its strength to "his" hand. Note, what God said to him: "it will no longer yield its strength to [you];" brackets mine for emphases-- God is speaking directly to Cain, so this particular curse is just for him. So, in answer to your question, no, until this point, the ground did not easily submit to the hoe and plow. But now, for Cain, it would be even harder. God bless John |

Hi Roudha: Welcome to the forum! Gal 3:28 is a good one! "There is [now no distinction] neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."-- Gal 3:28 NASB AMP God bless John |

Hi Born Again Man: Welcome! The Scriptures don't say that, anywhere that I'm aware of! And in fact, Jesus Himself says that, "no one is good but God alone." Luke 18:19 God bless John |

367 | Sin unto death | 1 John | stjohn | 202290
Hi Cheri: When we look at 1 John 5:16-7, with an understanding that it refers to spiritual death, there in lies the confusion because John is clearly speaking too and about believers. We know that believers cannot die spiritually, so, John must be talking about physical death. Look what happened to Moses when he sinned and struck the rock; that Rock from which flows the water, that is a picture of Jesus. He died physically didn't he? The Lord took him home. I believe that is what also happened to Ananias and Sophia. So. When John does not recomened praying for them, It stands to reasion, because for the dead, well, their fate is sealed. So why pray? We dont pray for the dead, wether they are saved or not. (my two cents) God bless John |

368 | Which Islands does Isaiah refer to? | Is 42:12 | stjohn | 202065
Hi Helena: Welcome to the forum! Isaiah, is not so much singling out the Islands and coastal regions, but rather including them to indicate that there is really nowhere in the world that the word of God will not be spoken and that God will be praised and glorified literally everywhere. (Romans 14:11) God bless John |

369 | Outside the camp, there's a place clean? | OT general | stjohn | 202021
Dear Sister Cheri: Thats an astute observation. I would guess (not really a guess) Numbers 19:9 makes it pretty clear that ALL of the area outside of the camp is not unclean. Unless I'm reading wrong; even the tent of meeting was outside the camp. Not picking on you here, just curious, where does Scripture say, and why would we regard everything outside the camp unclean? If that were the case; how could they ever justify leaving the camp at all? Shalom and God bless John |

370 | Dan not mentioned in Revelations | Rev 7:1 | stjohn | 201744
Hi Cliff: Welcome to the forum! It's believed by many that it was because if their Idolatry. Remember however, this is conjecture. Here is an excerpt from John Gill's Exposition of the whole Bible. --" Re 7:4; the tribe of Dan is not mentioned, it may be because of the apostasy of that tribe, one of Jeroboam's golden calves being set up there; showing that God had no sealed ones of that sort, and instead of him Levi is reckoned; though that tribe had no part in the division of the land of Israel, yet had a part in Christ, and is therefore mentioned in this mystical account. Nor is the name of Ephraim used, it may be for the same reason; there having been a great defection in that tribe from the pure worship of God, and instead of him the name of Joseph appears."-- John Gill God bless John |

372 | 4th person in the firey furnance | Dan 3:25 | stjohn | 201643
Hi 1stladie: Welcome to the forum! Although the NASB translation uses the plural form (God's) In the statement, ("and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!") in it's translation; I believe that we can safely ascertain that the Scripture here is referring to none other then our Lord, Jesus Christ. Here is an excerpt from Matthew Henry's commentary. God bless John --"Verses 19-27 Let Nebuchadnezzar heat his furnace as hot as he can, a few minutes will finish the torment of those cast into it; but hell-fire tortures, and yet does not kill. Those who worshipped the beast and his image, have no rest, no pause, no moment free from pain, revelation 14:10,11. Now was fulfilled in the letter that great promise, isaiah 43:2, When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned. Leaving it to that God who preserved them in the fire, to bring them out, they walked up and down in the midst, supported and encouraged by the presence of the Son of God. Those who suffer for Christ, have his presence in their sufferings, even in the fiery furnace, and in the valley of the shadow of death. Nebuchadnezzar owns them for servants of the most high God; a God able to deliver them out of his hand. It is our God only is the consuming fire, hebrews 12:29. Could we but see into the eternal world, we should behold the persecuted believer safe from the malice of his foes, while they are exposed to the wrath of God, and tormented in unquenchable fires."-- Matthew Henry |

373 | Where - "cities without walls" prophecy? | Zech 2:4 | stjohn | 201638
Hi Jim: Welcome to the forum! What you are asking is in context with the study of eschatology, (i.e. the study of end time prophecy) May I say that one should have, not just a cursory or concise knowledge of Scripture, before, delving into this area of theology, but rather a fairly comprehensive understanding of the entire Bible. It is difficult even at that to have an accurate understanding of eschatology. Having said that, I'll give you this verse, which I believe refers to a false peace, that will be found in the midst of what is called the Great Tribulation period; with a recommendation and link to some good commentary. Please be sure to read the context of the whole chapter! God bless John (Ezekiel 38:11) http://www.blueletterbible.org |

Hi dear sister, Cheri: Your right, you don't need to look for deeper meaning. That was a pagan practice of the time. Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary: Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk-This is the third place in which the prohibition is repeated. It was pointed against an annual pagan ceremony Ex 23:19; Ex 34:26. I hope this helps you. It did me! please remember, God doesn't put the cookies on the top shelf, where his kids cant reach them. :-) lets not look "to hard" for "deeper" meaning, it's hard enough for me to get it, when it's hitting me smack dab in the face. :-) God bless John |

377 | Did Mary, Jesus' Mother, worship Him? | Luke 1:46 | stjohn | 201098
Hi Belmonter, I don't know of any "one" verse, nor does she explicitly use the word worship, but read the words of Mary to he cousin Elisabeth: And Mary said: "My soul exalts the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM. He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart. He has brought down rulers from their thrones, And has exalted those who were humble. HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS; And sent away the rich empty-handed. He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever." Luke 1:46-55 It should be pretty clear what her attitude toward God was. God bless John |

379 | Is Deu 25:5, applicable to day? | Deut 25:5 | stjohn | 200908
Hi parpar; Judging from what I've read of your postings so far, I find it difficult to see that you are truly having trouble with this question. Are you asking for the sake of dialogue? These days, I haven't seen any evidence that God is in the business of killing men for not marrying their brothers widows. Obviously we are no longer in any danger of being slain for disobeying the (Mosaic) law. If we were still under that law, more towns would have a pit outside their gates to throw offenders into and stone, don't you think? God bless John |

Hello Baxt; Welcome to the forum! Thats a very good question! I believe you are correct in thinking that God is talking to Himself. You see, God, is three persons. The Father, The Son, ( who is Jesus Christ), and The Holy Spirit. So, He is indeed, talking to Himself! :-) If you read (John 1:1-3), It should clear that up pretty well for you. God bless John |
