201 | Who is the intercessor? | John 2:4 | inmyheart | 69410
Mommapbs, John 2:4 And Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 1. Woman. Jesus did not call her "mother", but "woman," a term of courteous respect, but indicating no spirit of obedience. Says Augustine, "As much as to say thou art not the mother of that in me which worketh miracles." Moses recognized that parental duties were subordinate to divine (Deuteronomy 33:9); and Jesus emphasized the principles (Matthew 10:37). Jesus taught that relationship to him was spiritual, and not fleshly (Matthew 12:46-50), and Paul coveted such relationship (2 Corinthians 5:16,17). 2. What have I to do with thee? This expression is used frequently in the Scriptures and invariably indicates a mild rebuke (1 Kings 17:18 2 Kings 3:13; 2 Chronicles 35:21; Matthew 8:29; Mark 1:24; Mark 5:7; Luke 4:34; Luke 8:28). It means "leave me to act as I please", and Jesus uses it to assert that he is independent of all human relationships in the exercise of his Messiahship. It corrects two errors taught by the Catholic Church: (1) Catholicism says that our Lord's mother was immaculate, but if this were true she could not have incurred our Lord's rebuke. (2) Catholicism teaches that Mary's intercession is recognized by Christ. But this is the only instance on record of such intercession, and though it was addressed to Christ while in the flesh and was concerning a purely temporal matter, it was promptly rebuked. 3. Mine hour is not yet come. Our Lord's answer indicates that Mary's request had in it more than a desire for the gift if wine. What she principally wanted was to have Jesus manifest himself as Messiah. Now, Jesus gave many secondary, but only one supreme, manifestation of his glory or Messiahship. His miracles were secondary manifestations, but his Passion was the supreme manifestation (John 8:28; John 2:18,19 Matthew 12:38-40). Jesus called this supreme sign his "hour" (John 12:23,27; John 17:1; Matthew 26:45; Luke 22:53). See also John 7:30; John 8:20. His mother sought for a supreme sign, but at that time only a secondary sign could be fittingly given. The triumph at Pentecost was not to be achieved at Cana. John 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 1. His mother saith unto the servants. Though he had spoken words of rebuke, his mother was neither offended nor discouraged because of them, 2. Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. Though her words are not addressed to us, they will prove of untold profit to us if we obey them. This is the long and short of your question. As for the can of worms? :) God bless |

202 | helping someone to believe? | John 3:16 | inmyheart | 65704
You pray for them. You've heard that some sow, some water, and some harvest? Only God knows how He wants to use you in winning this person to the Lord. For myself, when I was in the world the preaching of the cross was foolishness ( maybe you can agree with this also), as it is written in 1 Corinthians 1:18, but now that I'm a believer, it's the power of God, amen! One thing is certain, that God wants to demonstrate His Love through you to this lost and dying world. God Bless |

203 | Should I "count" this one? | John 4:27 | inmyheart | 69962
The names of religions and religious terms receive capital letters. We read a story from the "Bible" about "God" and "Moses". NOTE: Pronouns referring to God should be capitalized. Non-specific use of the word "god" should not be capitalized. *The Bible talks about God and "His" disciples. *The Egyptians worshipped many different "gods". Ray, I hope this answers your question. "You" is referring to the Deity, use upper case, you can get more info on the below site; http://www.sheridanc.on.ca/career/tips/capital.htm God bless! |

204 | What is Mormon relation w/Jesus? | John 5:18 | inmyheart | 54634
Greetings Norrie, You should be refreshed :) I pray that you had a blessed time. I was just reading Matthew 7, let me quote from verses 21-23; "Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is is heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evil-doers! 1 John 4:1-6, is also a good reference. I am not familiar with any other religions :) They can pray over their food all they want in The Name of Jesus, but it will be meanningless if they don't know the Savior. Was this a compromise for your cousin? Or did your cousin compromise! Keep praying for your cousin situation, with God all things are possible. Once again, welcome back and God bless you |

205 | How does Satan communicate with us? | John 13:27 | inmyheart | 65557
Cheryl, Satan is the father of lies, he will use every situation to attack you. Here are a few verses to help you recognize some areas that liar uses. When these areas arise, we are to cast them down, or reject them, or not entertain them. 2Cr 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2Cr 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 206 | How does Satan influence us? | John 13:27 | inmyheart | 65570
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. And be not conformed to this world, meaning don't be squeezed or pressured into the mold of this world. We are to be transformed, or changed. And the way to be changed is to renew our mind. For us to get to our destiny and purpose in life, we have to transformed. The born-again experience has elevated us to a higher standard, and once we are elevated to that higher standard of living we are to renew our mind, and "bring our minds" up to that higher standard, so we can operate effectively. We want to make it to our destiny, one of the things we found out is that the enemy (satan) is after our souls. Our souls consist of our mind, will and emotions. In Matthew 6:25, we are not to worry, well one the the ways the enemy will attack you in through your mind, he will send a thought, and we are to cast those those thoughts down or out of our minds. In fact the bible instructs us on what to think about in Philippians 4:8-9. Well, this can go into a study, so I'll stop here. I pray that this has given you some information. Don't forget Jesus, is the author and finisher of our faith, we have the victory! God bless. P.S. Yes, to all of your ? |

208 | the barren branch never was a branch? | John 15:2 | inmyheart | 47655
Once again, greetings my friend, I happened to come across this commentary that gives the information that you seek. I find this this view was very helpful. Here it is; When Jesus is gone, they must still abide in Him and bear fruit. 1. John 15:1-3, Jesus: the true vine a. Jesus may have said this in view of, or as they passed the great golden vine on the front of the temple; the vine that symbolized the nation Israel. b. The vine is a familiar Old Testament symbol for Israel (Psalm 80:8-9) but is often used in a negative sense (Isaiah 5:1-2,7 - Jeremiah 2:21) c. In contrast, Jesus is the true vine: one must be rooted in Him, not Israel, if one is to bear fruit for God. d. The branches that are taken away were never properly abiding in the vine; the ones that bear fruit are "cleansed (not "removed" by pruning), and that through the Word. i. The Word is a cleansing force: it condemns sin, it inspires holiness; it promotes growth; it reveals power for victory. ii Boice believes that the verb "airo" commonly translated "takes away" here is more accurately translated "lifts up" - the Father lifts up unproductive vines off of the ground (as is common in vinedressings), that they may get more sun and bear fruit better. Praying that this is what you were after, but anyway, it's always good to hear someone's point of view. It's my belief that the Holy Spirit will give revelation of the Word. Thank you again my friend for taking the time to review this post. Again this is just another view, always confirm with the Word of God. God bless you as He draws you closer to Him. |

209 | Prayer without an Answer??? | John 17:23 | inmyheart | 101779
John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." Your question is too vague! Be more specific. The above verse makes the statement "If you abide in Me,"- you will be surprised how many will pray, but have no fellowship with God. So when you say "Is the problem on the person' side or somewhere in between???" Fill in what is your relationship with God. God bless |

210 | inmyheart, could Paul be sarcastic? | Acts | inmyheart | 49287
My friend, Paul has never been sarcastic in any of his inspired writings! What I'm saying is, why do some feel or want to ignore the "gift" of tongues? All the gifts of the Spirit are important! The whole Bible is written, as you know, for a pupose. Once again thanks for responding, I want to hear from someone who is not one sided in their understanding. God blessings |

213 | In Acts 12:10, who opened the gate? | Acts | inmyheart | 71144
Dublin, He was led safely by the angel out of danger, Acts 12: v. 10. Guards were kept at one pass and at another, which they were to make their way through when they were out of the prison, and they did so without any opposition; nay, for aught that appears, without any discovery: either their eyes were closed; or their hands were tied, or their hearts failed them; so it was that the angel and Peter safely passed the first and second ward. Those watchmen represented the watchmen of the Jewish church, on whom God had poured out a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, Rom. xi. 8. His watchmen are blind, sleeping, lying down, and loving to slumber. But still there is an iron gate, after all, that will stop them, and, if the guards can but recover themselves, there they may recover their prisoner, as Pharaoh hoped to retake Israel at the Red Sea. However, up to that gate they march, and, like the Red Sea before Israel, it opened to them. They did not so much as put a hand to it, but it opened of its own accord, by an invisible power; and thus was fulfilled in the letter what was figuratively promised to Cyrus (Isa. xlv. 1, 2): I will open before him the two-leaved gates, will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron. And probably the iron gate shut again of itself, that none of the guards might pursue Peter. Note, When God will work salvation for his people, no difficulties in their way are insuperable; but even gates of iron are made to open of their own accord. This iron gate led him into the city out of the castle or tower; whether within the gates of the city or without is not certain, so that, when they were through this, they were got into the street. 214 | barnabas enabler of paul? | Acts | inmyheart | 73703
Barnabas: Encourager and Enabler Acts 4:36-37; 9:26-27; 11:22-26; 15:36-41 Biblically, we traverse four chapters of the Book of Acts to discover gems in the life of Barnabas. Joseph, who was called Barnabas ("one who encourages"), sold a field and gave the proceeds to the apostles (4:36-37). When the apostles were frightened of Saul, Barnabas vouched for his good character (9:26-27). The church in Jerusalem sent Barnabas to check out the situation in Antioch, and he welcomed the new converts with joy (11:22-24). Barnabas sought out Paul to minister with him in Antioch, where believers were first called "Christians" (vv. 25-26). Barnabas and Paul decided to make a second missionary journey, but instead went their separate ways when Barnabas insisted that Mark go with them (15:36-41). From this lesson, we gain insight into the life of a Christian as manifested by one of the early saints, Barnabas. Here we learn that it is important for us as believers to take the posture of encourager in the life of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Too many of us are critics instead of encouragers. We can also learn from Barnabas's generosity. He could not keep the blessing of the Lord to himself; he had to share it with the people of God. We learn of his outreaching spirit as he makes the first missionary journey with Paul. God bless |

215 | Acts 15:38 | Acts | inmyheart | 73962
Acts 15:38: This scripture directly links Paul's refusal to take Mark with them to the fact that Mark departed from them prematurely on their first missionary journey. That still leaves many questions about what Mark's motives were for the departure, but suffice it to say that Paul thought Mark's reasons were inadequate. This reveals an attitude that Paul had towards those in leadership which we would do well to imitate. Paul did not want to spend his time ministering to his own team. He needed only strong, mature help. The weak or wounded should not be put on the front lines for their own sake as well as the sake of the mission. Whatever Mark's problems were, they were resolved so that he went on to become a mighty man of God. There is no reason to believe that Paul was against that. In fact, Paul's treatment of Mark here could have been an inspiration to him to grow up. God Bless |

216 | Are Tounges a sign of Spiritual Baptism | Acts 2:4 | inmyheart | 73323
What is the will of God? I Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues ... I Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth...What is it then? I will pray with the spirit... I Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all. I Corinthians 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. The apostle Paul wrote this section of Corinthians to correct error in use of the manifestations in public worship. When the Corinthians got together they all wanted to (because of course all can!) speak in tongues. In fact they were all doing it together at the same time. So Paul wrote to let them know what should be the order of things in public. But he also made it clear that tongues in your private worship of God was not only good. It was God's will, it was Paul's practice [more than ye all], and it was a commandment of the Lord. Does God want you to speak in tongues? ABSOLUTELY! God bless |

218 | Holy Spirit evidence of Salvation? | Acts 2:38 | inmyheart | 51295
Mommapbs, Blessings you my friend, I pray that all is well with you and your family. I happened to log on to check a certain post and I came across yours. I'm however on my way out to a meeting and I don't have the time to respond to you, but I will when I get back, OK! However let me say that you present a very good question or maybe even a good statement, and it is well worth the time to see what God's Word say's (not opinions) about the Holy Spirit. Looking forward to reponding to your question. I encourage you to keep on with your work in the Lord. God Bless |

219 | Holy Spirit evidence of Salvation? | Acts 2:38 | inmyheart | 51360
Mommapbs, Greetings Well I'm back. Let me say I was prepared to answer your question, then I read your post to Robert. Then I read your post as you suggested him to do. Now I have two questions to answer. First of all, refering to your post, 'water baptism unnecessary for conversion', you stated "after his encounter with the Lord, Saul (Paul) was in Damascus for THREE DAYS (ACT 9:9) prior to being (water) baptized!" Was he "unsaved" during this time? My answer is yes, Paul was not yet converted (saved). Act 22:12, Paul notes that it was Ananias, A man with credentials as a good Jew who received him into the faith that is in Christ. Verse 14 Ananias explains the will of the Father. Verse 15 his calling. Verse 16 Paul is baptized that same day! However, is baptism necessary for salvation? Well, your reference is Act 2:38, while baptism with water was the EXPECTED symbol for conversion, it was not an criterion for salvation. We are not addressing the fact whether the Holy Spirit is given AFTER or before baptism, we are addressing receiving the "gift of the Holy Spirit." Act 2:39 is saying, The Promise is to you: then, the "GIFT" of the Holy Spirit will be given to them as it was given to the original group of disciples: and as it will be given to succeeding generations of those who believe. Back to Act 2:38, Peter gives them something to "do" in response to their question. This means that we must "do" something to be saved; we must 'do" something to follow Jesus. It doesn't just "happen." notice I mentioned "do" and not "work". Even in the act of "repent" we must "do" something, e.g. turn our direction around from the way we were going. Act 10:44-48, These God-fearing Gentiles are saved, filled with the Holy Spirit and baptized. There salvation, apparently, each one of these Gentiles responded to the message of Peter with believing faith in their hearts, so that they were actually saved while they listened. The moment of a person's salvation isn't necessarily when they raise a hand or come forward at an evangelistic invitation, it is more likely at the moment they surrender to God and embrace Jesus in the sincerity of their heart. Gentiles had probably been saved in the eight years since Pentecost, but they were saved as they embraced Judaism as well as Christianity, Gentile may have been saved but they were saved as Jews, not Gentiles. In closing, the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit as they did in Acts 10 PRIOR to their water baptism! After their baptism they received the GIFT of the Holy Spirit. What's the difference? God blessings Mommapbs |

220 | tithing | Acts 13:39 | inmyheart | 65223
In the churches of Corinth and of Galatia, when on a certain occasion money was needed for the saints' (that is, apparently, the poor of the church of Jerusalem), the apostle Paul, with a founder's authority, directed or gave order: "Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper," I Corinthians 16:2. Here four things may be noticed about this method of raising a charitable fund: 1. It seems to be assumed that every one would give. 2. Givings were to be stored beforehand. 3. Giving was to have reference to prosperity. 4. Giving, or laying by, was to be exercised every Lord's day. And it should be observed that sometimes collections, enjoined by the apostle, were on behalf of Christians outside the churches in which the contributions were made. Other instructions upon giving, taught by Paul to his Galatian converts, seem to occur in connection with their support of the ministry, for he says: "Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap," Galatians 6:6-7 Give to your local body of believers, your church. God will lead you to the right one. God Bless |
