341 | anyone got any ideas on this scripture? | Prov 12:27 | Mommapbs | 85006
Greetings! VERY simplistically, follow through is lacking! At first reading, it seems to me that "lazy" and "diligent" are opposite qualities. While both the lazy and the diligent have goals purpose or pursuits, only the diligent will realize or enjoy the benefit of them. How we pay attention to our relationships, our work and especially God's Word can be brought into focus by meditating on the Truth expressed in this verse. May God reveal areas of our lives where we are "lazy" and may we in response, diligently pursue Him for all our needs! mommapbs |

342 | Need Advice... to change Church to be a | Prov 14:12 | Mommapbs | 47301
Greetings Grace7044! I've expanded what you wrote a bit, but here is what you have stated: "I am unhappy . . . I need to be where God is moving . . I need to be seeing great things happen." And yet you also stated that "you WANT God's leading." Seems to me that you have your perceived needs and desires ahead of God. I'm sorry if this is a hard pill to swallow, but I can fully relate to your feelings! I must speak the same words of warning into my own soul. God knows what YOU NEED and He will provide! Acording to the profile you shared, right now you are the pianist for your church body. Who are you serving: yourself or God? God calls us to where He can accomplish His purposes for us. And sometimes God keeps us in a place to accomplish His purposes. At times WE may be part of God's purpose for someone else too! Be open to that. I am reminded about the time that Judah was carried off into captivity in 2 Kings 25. All the important people were carried off to Babylon and the poorest people were left to "tend the vinyards and fields." Nebuchandnezzar appointed an overseer for the people who were left in Judah. ("there is no authority except that which God has established." Romans 13:1) The people were told: 1.not to be afraid of the Babylonian officials. (God has established their authority) 2.to settle in the land (do the work God has set before you) 3 to serve the King of Babylon (as unto the Lord?) They were also given a promise for their obedience "it will go well with you." v. 24 Notice their response in verse 26 - they fled to Egypt! (WE know what is BEST for US!) From this passage, I would encourage you to continue to examine if and how your desires line up with God's. Perhaps God intends to move through YOU and use YOU as HIS instrument to make great things happen! Even if it means you have to tend a few unbearing vines and plow an unfertile field for a while, keep looking for His hand to provide and guide! I know this is not the answer you would like to have; it would be so much simpler to just say,"If you are unhappy, it means that you should leave." But last I looked, God didn't call us to happiness; He calls us to joy - to rejoice in Him. I trust that you will desire to be obedient to Him above all else. He will bless this indeed! 344 | WHY DID GOD DECIDE WHO MAN'S PARTNER? | Prov 14:12 | Mommapbs | 59953
Greetings SWAZ! God does everything perfectly. He provided man with the very best of His creation. (Gen 2:18-25) Throughout God's Word we see the result of man's choice. (Is 53:6) As a side note, an excellent resource is a book called "When God Writes Your Love Story" - this addresses the very issue you have raised - why it is important to let God do the choosing. Of course those of us who chose on our own must be willing to accept the consequences of that choice. "The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways . . . A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is arrogant and careless." Proverbs 14,16 (The following statement is NOT meant to be inflammatory, but it is an observation than many people miss!) God is "pro-choice." He gives us the freedom to choose - but the options are limited: His Way or our way. Isn't it comforting to know that God can make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" though? What an awesome God we serve! Blessings, Mommapbs |

345 | Who is the 'backslider in heart'? | Prov 14:14 | Mommapbs | 30842
Greetings Nolan! My study Bible has a cross reference to Jer 3:6 which indicates that this "daughter" refers to Israel. But according to the Amplified version, I suspect that God had many sons and daughters in mind! A backslider in heart - what a convicting description! Many times I find myself distracted and self centered. So often I find so much "fruit" of my own making that I am starving! It is a struggle to maintain my focus on God and His desires. Any suggestions? Blessings to you, Mommapbs |

346 | DOES GOD HEAR PRAYRS OF UNBELIEVING JEW | Prov 15:29 | Mommapbs | 22065
The issue to consider is WHO is righteous? Proverbs 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. 1 Peter 3:12 "For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." Please read Romans 3:9-31. Paul is very clear about the righteousness that comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:12-13 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." See also Galatians 2:16-21. |

347 | What is "spiritual pride"? | Prov 16:18 | Mommapbs | 69031
Greetings! Good question and Hank gave you an excellent answer! I'd like to add something else for you to consider. This is what God says we should boast about: . . .but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD. Jer 9:24 Might this be the ONLY form of pride that God approves of? But, can we ever really boast that we fully know and understand God? The more I come to know Him, the less I know - I know! (See Isa 55:8-9) I suspect that knowing who we are in Christ is the only thing we can "be proud of" and at that, we are proud of HIM who gave Himself for us! Just some thoughts. mommapbs |

348 | is it wrong to gamble? | Prov 16:33 | Mommapbs | 34407
What do you think? Does this verse refer to gambling? How is casting a lot different? I think that when a person "gambles,"they choose to depend upon luck rather than God. A life lived like this is indeed a "crap shoot." We are called to a life of dependency - WHO or WHAT we depend upon will determine our choices. With this in mind, WHAT is the objective of gambling? Is this objective honoring to God? Hope this helps you sort out an answer for yourself! Mommapbs |

349 | How did the 11 choose? | Prov 16:33 | Mommapbs | 49856
The practice of "casting lots" was used to determine the Lord's will. It's validity is based upon the sovereignty of God as expressed in Proverbs 16:33. We see that the disciples chose to trust the Lord regarding this important decision. They wanted the Lord to choose who would replace Judas. "So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. And they prayed and said, 'You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place'. And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles." Acts 1:23-26 Do you think we should continue this practice today? |

354 | jewelry and piercings | Prov 20:1 | Mommapbs | 85487
Opps! I sent this to myself by mistake! While reading in Jeremiah 9:25-26 it struck me that piercings or cutting made in the body are akin to the circumcision (an outward sign of God's possession) commanded for Israel. Satan always conterfiets the activity of God and this may be one of them. The practice of cutting the flesh seems to be cultural in many areas of the world, and yet perhaps it stems from a desire to measure up or to be approved . . . by the gods? By others? If this is the reason or motive for the "cutting" then it takes on a rebellious spirit - one that seeks approval apart from God. However, the circumcision of the heart is what the Lord requires! This "cutting" can only be accomplished by HIS HAND! And THIS is what we are to seek! As I consider my own ears, I remember as a 15 year old, I wanted them pierced, "because everyone else had them pierced." But, my mother said, "No." SO what did I do? I pierced them myself. The motive: To be like others. Rebellious, disobedient? YES (Do not learn the way of the nations, Jer 10:2) Today, 35 years later, I wouldn't wear good earrings unless they were of the pierced variety. The holes are good protection against loss. I don't regret the piercing, but I regret the circumstances and repent of my rebellion that it represents. God has used this to illustrate His truth - His approval is all that matters, the circumcision of my heart was wrought by the piercing of Jesus - the Author and Finisher of my faith. May this bless your day and encourage you in your relationship with the Lord, who loves you and gave Himself up for you! mommapbs |

355 | insight into discipleship principles | Prov 20:5 | Mommapbs | 68290
Greetings! You have asked a lot of questions for one post! I'm wondering about a connection to Jesus' command and this Proverb. Something to think about. What I'd like to address is your differentiation between Peter and Simon. I see no reason to suggest that our behavior prompts God to call us anything other than who we are in Christ: an adopted son/daughter; a joint hier with Christ, beloved of the Father, etc. Yes, we are new creations in Jesus, (Gal 6:5; 2 Cor 5:17)yet we still have the old sin nature living within. (Rom 7) But since we are forgiven and our sins are removed from us as far as the east is from the west (Ps 103:12)why would God ever remind us of who were were without Him? Just wondering . . . mommapbs |

356 | Christian, or Good Ole Boy? 1 of 2 | Prov 23:7 | Mommapbs | 136311
George - The mark of maturity is when we assume responsibility for our own actions, some of which you have done here - yet it appears to me that you are not only name calling but blaming the results of your own poor conduct on others and/or The Lockman foundation. You stated that you "feel that you have been wronged." I encourage you to examine the root of those feelings. Are you looking for man's approval here? Are you angry that you didn't meet some standard that you had set for yourself? Please consider these possibilities. Lastly, God knows all about this experience and I encourage you to trust HIM with the outcome. What might He be trying to teach to you about Himself? About you? Peace, mommapbs |

357 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | Mommapbs | 153371
Greetings! How to balance the truth of God's Word with the message of the world is indeed a difficult hurdle as a parent! Basically, we are taught to belive lies and as a result we become addicted to performance and approval rather than looking for our worth from God alone. I have found "The Search for Significance" by Robert McGee to be a great tool. It is available in youth, teen and adult versions. Check it out!

360 | Without a vision the people will? | Prov 29:18 | Mommapbs | 103509
Greetings! I'm curious why you have asked this question. It appears as if there is a problem with accountability, submitting to authority or perhaps issues of control and/or jealousy have arisen in your fellowship. Here is a post that I copied for you from Scribe (#42479).Do consider what he is saying here! Scribe posts: Where there is no vision, the people perish If you look up this word in the KJV you will see that it is overwhelmingly used for the prophet who spoke the Word of God to the people calling them to repentance. There were many pillow prophets and false prophets speakning "blessings" and "peace and saftey" at times in Israel's history when there was "no open vision" and the "word of God was precious" If today you have many men preaching but preaching from their own heart and not giving a challenging word from God as revealed to them in prayer and seeking after God's heart, you end up with a people that perish for no prophetic vision. They continue on in their sins with no alarm of the impending judgement to come. And if a minister comes along and decides to obey the heart of God and call the people to repentance he is quickly voted out of the pulpit for a more "tolerable" minister that will "understand" the people. It is only when the preaching of the Word is being done by the power of the Holy Spirit that people will be convicted of sin. Without this dynamic of the anointing the people cast off restraint and say "we are saved to do all these abominations." mommapbs writes: Basically, what is a "vision" - it is what God has revealed to us, and most of it is right before our eyes in His Word. Does God have a different vision for different churches? If we are all one Body IN CHRIST, might His vision for us all be the same? Think about this. Blessings, mommapbs PS: If someone has invented a better wheel we should all use it; if the original wheel cannot be improved (or should no be improved) why fiddle with it? |
