34121 | Covenants and Dispensation? | Eph 1:10 | Lionstrong | 5101
In the KJV the word is dispensation, whence dispensationalism. I disagree with dispensationalism and hold to what's call covenental theology. But I'm weak in my knowledge of both. Can we get in this forum a well versed dispensationalist and a well versed covenanter to present a page on the biblical pros and cons of their view? And may there be more light and heat. Lionstrong |

34122 | Jesus Himself said, I AM | John 8:58 | retxar | 5067
In John 8:58 Jesus refers to Himself as the great I AM. This is certainly a powerful statement by Jesus Himself of His deity, not that He just existed before Abraham. No one that calls Jesus Christ Lord would want this verse “watered down” to imply anything else. But what about other verses in the NASB, KJV, and NKJV where this statement is just as powerful, but is lost because of the addition of un-inspired words by the translators. Italicized words are supposed to add clarity, but do they always?. Please DO NOT answer before trying this. Read John 8:24, 8:28, 13:19, 18:5-8. Now read Exodus 3:13-14. Now go back and read the verses in John again, but this time don’t read the italicized words. Take special note of John 8:24. "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am (He), you will die in your sins." Does the addition of the (He) here make since now? Not to me. If the (He) is implied by Jesus here, who is Jesus saying (He) is, other than I AM? I have asked this question before, without much response. I will ask again. Do the italicized words clarify who Jesus is, or do they it take away from the very words Jesus spoke Himself, about who He is? Jesus is Lord!!!!!!!!! |

34127 | Any comments of this daily reading? | Ephesians | wist ye not | 5070
Any comWEDNESDAY, May 9 St. Gregory -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke 6:27-38. For he is kind to the unthankful and those who are wicked. And aren't we glad? If God is kind to those who are wicked or unthankful (translation: us) then we are certain he will love us for trying to be like him. That means we should help others, even if they are pains- in-the-neck or pigs (like brothers) or just plain jerks, we should help them. That is what Jesus would do. Remember, God loves the jerks, and the little brothers, and all those pain-in-the-neck people. Also remember that to someone else you might be that pain-in-the-neck Jesus was talking about. If God has the patience to love you when you reject and ignore him, can you do less and still really call yourself his disciple? I know that I am not perfect, but knowing God loves me anyway makes it a lot easier to be nice to my little brother when he annoys me. God loves him as much as he loves me. And the nicest thing about this passage is that Jesus affirms all our hopes when he says that God loves all of us, even at our worst. Come with us, O blessed Jesus, With us evermore to be: And in leaving now thine altar, Let us nevermore leave thee! O let thine angel chorus Cease not the heavenly strain, But in us, thy loving children, Bring peace, good will to men. 34128 | When is "Bible Graduation Day"? | Prov 9:9 | Hank | 5014
Studying the Bible seems so challenging, so daunting at times. What little I have learned about it pales in contrast to all the things I neither know nor understand. I become discouraged sometimes. Do you feel this way too? We're not alone! Please allow me to share with you a thought along these lines from the mighty pen of St. Augustine, than whom few other persons have delved so deeply for so long into God's eternal Word. He said that even if all he did was simply study the Scriptures and "nothing else, from boyhood to decrepit old age, with the utmost leisure, the most unwearied zeal, and with talents greater than I possess, I would still be making progress in discovering their treasures." His wise words minister to me today, and I pray they will give you too a measure of hope and renewed zeal in your quest to learn more about this blessed Book. --Hank

34130 | Simon of Cyrene | Matt 27:32 | prayon | 5010
We are told that Simon of Cyrene was compelled to carry the cross for Jesus on the way to Golgatha. I believe that this must of made a strong impact on him because Romans 16:13 states that Paul mentions his sons, Rufus and Alexander, with warm affection. My question is what else do we know about him? Why was he in Jerusalem at that time? Was this his first exposure to Christ or had he heard his message before? Had he been in the crowd yelling "Crucify him"?

34134 | Will you join me? | Acts 2:33 | charis | 4912
Dear saints, The above verse, preceded by "This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses." Acts 2:32 NASB, speaks clearly of the Tri-Une nature of our God, or the Trinity. In the statement of faith of our sponsors is written, "We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary." This is a clear statement of the Three-in-One God. Call it what you will, but this is the faith of Christianity from the very beginning of the Lord Jesus' ministry on earth. Any attempt to 'unify' or 'combine' this basic, ubiquitous doctrine into 'One Entity' is not in keeping with the Bible, nor with the creed of our sponsors and purpose of this forum. I am forthwith boycotting any further discussion of the 'Oneness' or 'Jesus-only' topics. Further consideration of this line is without merit, and will only hurt this forum, and the saints in this fellowship. Will you join me in stopping this unwise waste of time? Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |

34136 | What does "emptied Himself" really mean | Phil 2:7 | RWC | 4905
What does "emptied Himself" really mean? (This question comes from a discussion on Heb. 4.15) I tend to think that when Jesus was incarnated (became a human being) that He set aside the _use_ of most (if not all) of His divine power. That does not mean that He was any less divine, but simply that He chose not to use the power and ability that was His. I think that when He became a human being, He made Himself completely dependant upon the Holy Spirit and that the works that He did were, for the most part at least and perhaps even totally, done in the power of the Holy Spirit. He is, after all, our example. I am convinced that Jesus was and is the Living God wrapped in humanity. At no time did He cease to be God. But it seems to me that in order for Him to truely experience life as a human being requires that He must have set aside (not used) most if not all of His own powers and abilities. That is how He could experience real hunger. That is how He could experience real fatigue. That is how He could experience real pain. That is why we can find Jesus not knowing certain things. And that is why we can find Jesus being truely tempted (and thus the discussion on Heb. 4.15). I am not so convinced that this view is correct that I would say that it was a definite doctrine (teaching) of the Scripture. But I _tend_ toward thinking that this might well be the truth. Your comments and or subsequent questions would be very much appreciated. |
