AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate, not as inferior, but out of respect for the responsibilities entrusted to husbands and their accountability to God, and so partnering with them] so that even if some do not obey the word [of God], they may be won over [to Christ] without discussion by the godly lives of their wives, [Eph 5:22] |
Bible Question:
So why, with such a specific and direct command for women to be silent, would there be a grey area at all? Steve - your opinions, though toughest to follow, and most out of the mainstream, seemed to be the most consistent (until the grey :) If one is going to follow the Bible literally in it's every Word - I think that one has to follow it as you are. |
Bible Answer: Hello Joy, Why a gray area? It's in trying to develop a systematic theology about women. 1 Cor 14 says for women to be silent while 1 Tim 2 says only that women are not to lead or teach men. Putting these together, there is a question of women's participation if not leading or teaching. So I have to figure out: Under what ciscumstances is it proper? Steve P.S. Is g-r-e-y the preferred spelling now? I'm pushing 50, so I'm getting out of touch. ;-) |
