Bible Note: Dear Sparrow-l: Interesting Bible quotes. Thank you for them and I will consider them. I would like to ask you though, how do you respond to God making an image of Himself in Christ Jesus? Didn't Jesus say He was/is God? If you are a member of a Protestant church, do you have a cross hanging on the wall? A cross is an icon (a representation) of the cross Christ hung on. Do you wear a cross on a chain? How do you deal with the images God instructed the Israelites to put in the Tabernacle and on the Ark of the Covenant (cherubim and seraphim)? Did He break His own instructions? No, I don't think He did. As for the early church making icons to "appease unbelieving people," I respectfully disagree. Historically, the early church introduced icons/images to help teach the illiterate the stories in the Bible. As for spiritual worship, I completely agree. But how do you know whether someone who venerates an icon is "worshipping an idol?" Are you able to see into their heart? Only God can do that, so the Bible tells me. An icons are called "windows into heaven." The Bible also says, judge not lest ye be judged. I write all this, not to be contentious in the least, but to respond to your kind thoughts and suggestions and to provide additional food for thought for yourself.
