Bible Question: Why was it displeasing? |
Bible Answer: Hello again, I believe that Samuel was 'displeased' or troubled in spirit because of his fellow Israelites. They were asking for a king so that they could be like the nations around them, completely forgetting that the Lord Himself was their King (8:7). They simply did not consider the fact that they were God's chosen people, singled out from all other nations. And they should have been different from all other nations, including their government and worship.. Samuel may have felt a bit rejected himself since he was judging Israel at the time, yet they sought a king to be like the other nations around them. But the people were ultimately rejecting the Lord. --Nolan |
