Bible Question:
In I Samual 24:3, in the KJV, it states that Saul went into the cave and covered his feet. In the NIV it refers to this as "relieve himself". How is this translated to this from covering his feet in the KJV? |
Bible Answer: Tabby - "To cover his feet" is a Hebrew euphemism for the English "to go to the bathroom." Thus, modern translations, e.g. NASB, ESV, NIV, usually render the phrase, "to relieve himself." The KJV rendition of this passage is more literally accurate but not as readily understood by readers who may not be fluent in Hebrew euphemisms. --Hank |
