AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Samuel 2:25 "If one man does wrong and sins against another, God will intercede (arbitrate) for him; but if a man does wrong to the LORD, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to their father, for it was the LORD'S will to put them to death. |
Bible Question:
What was Eli's son's sin against the Lord? Didn't they "just" sin against man, by sleeping with thw women who served (v 22)? Steve PS Take a peek at verse 26. Who does this remind you of? |
Bible Answer: Ver 17..."for the men abhorred the offering of the Lord." Ver 24... "ye make the Lord's people to transgress." Eli's sons served as priests also and were therefore representatives of God to the people. Responsible to teach the people who God was and what His laws were. By their behavior they were expressing contempt for God's offerings, contempt for God. Sleeping with the women who served, was turning God's tabernacle into a house of prostitution. All of this before the nation of Israel to whom they were to be examples of righteousness, to represent God before Israel. In short they were taking God's name in vain in a very blatant manner, a sin that God promises will not go unpunished. Ex 20:7 |
