Bible Question:
I was singing in church today and began to wonder if Jehovah (KJV) and Yahweh in the song was equal to the YHWH of the Hebrew language. Is this a made up word because God is too holy to use his name, or is this God's name in the text of Scripture? |
Bible Answer: The name Jehovah is made up. Most scholars contribute it to Tyndale. It is believed he took the tetragram YHWH and added the vowels from the Greek word for God "Adonai". The Latin influence of pronunciation of Y becomes J and W to V |
