Bible Question: Doc, Is the reason behind this to see just how sincere a person really is? What kind of questions do they ask? I appreicate any insight. Sister in Christ Sandra |
Bible Answer: Dear Sandra, No, the purpose is to insure that the prospective member is a believer. In addition, the committee may also apprise you of the benefits and responsibilities that you accrue as a member. Finally, it is also a means by which you are able to inquire of them, so as to be certain that you want to obligate yourself to this congregation. Many Baptist churches have just done the "walk down the aisle thing." What you end up with there are folks who don't think there are any obligations required of them. By the way, this is nothing new. It has been a concern of the church for as long as there has been a church. This particular issue has been a concern of Baptists since the 17th century. In Him, Doc |
