Subject: How did Paul die |
Bible Note: Hi, Brother John... TYHM is using the Hebrew name for Saul. Although, if we were to reflect the actual New Testament usage of the word, it would be Saulus. Paul, the apostle, was Saul (Acts 13:9). However, he abandoned the use of the name after his ministry to the Gentile began in earnest. After which, he only refers to himself as Saul when relating his conversion (Acts 22:7 and 26:14). Although others in the church called him Saul shortly after his conversion (Acts 22:13), this practice changed (2 Peter 3:15), probably at Paul's behest. Note, again, that he always refers to himself in his epistles as Paul. However, if we were going to be really accurate, getting as close to the apostles own pronunciation, it would be Paulus. That would be pronounced "pow-loss" with the accent on the first syllable. Paul is the Anglicized version of this name. Seems to me that what you call yourself is generally what you want others to call you. In Him, Doc |
