Bible Question: Why is the betrayal of Jesus different in the book of John? Matthew 26:48 says (Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him), Mark 14:44 says(Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away under guard), and Luke 26:48 says (Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.”). however John 18:4-5 says (So Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He *said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them.). i believe the bible is divine, but this does seem like quite the contradiction. can anyone explain this to me? |
Bible Answer: Hi, cjcs138... Welcome to the forum! There is no contradiction here. Mark and Luke give this detail, whereas John omits it. A contradiction would be a denial of the statement of one narration from the others. An omission is not a contradiction. In Him, Doc |
