Bible Question:
The accounts of the Roman officer in Matthew 8: 5-13 and Luke 7: 1-10 have many similar parts. In the Matthew account the officer came to Jesus but in the Luke account, he sent some respected Jewish leaders. Are these two different events or is there an error in translation? |
Bible Answer: I would say that there is not an error in translation. You have the same event being recorded by two different authors with each putting in what he feels of value and according to his own writing style. To give you a quick example, when the police are interviewing people and their statements are 100 percent the same, it brings into question if the individuals being interviewed have been collaborating on their statements. So, I wouldn't expect the Gospels to be 100 percent the same (because they are written by different individuals), yet the important details to match (the same when interviewing someone). Hope this helps, Brad |
