Bible Question: Don't get me wrong I am not trying to defend the woman only trying to understand. Where in scripture does it say 'she followed Christ'. She did go into town and people listened to her and went to see Jesus and then they believed. I hope for her eternity she did but isn't there a great deal of 'speculation' for her entire story? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... John 4:39,41 "From that city many of the Samaritans believed" ... "Many more believed because of His word" ... God's day to you, rosiedog, In verses 25-26, we read 'The woman *said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us." Jesus *said to her, "I who speak to you am He."' Verse 29 says, "Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?" The in vesre 42, we read, "and they were saying to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world." The 'speculation' Doc was talking about is why she was there at noon, not about her belief. We have been told women went to the well in the morning or evening. However, you are correct. The Bible never says that she believed, tho others believed. It is hard to believe that she didn't believe based on what she said to the people and what they said about what she said to them. Act 16:17 shows one example of one who didn't believe proclaming who Jesus was. S |
