Bible Question (short): where does 3:17 suggest obedience? |
Question (full): I dont think that it was through obedience that Jesus gained the Fathers approval.. Matthew 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” This was stated by John Blanchard.. It was through obedience that Jesus gained the Father’s approval (Matthew 3:17) and fulfilled God’s will for His life. And through obedience we will do the same. Now granted Jesus was obedient and I totally believe in the power of being a Christian, but this statement is a little off. I say this because God was well pleased in his son at this point BEFORE he did anything. This was the very begining of his ministry. This statement rather suggests Gods love for all of us is not based on obedience or works rather he loves us unconditionally. I suppose this is rather a statement rather than a question but I would like to see others opinions about this. If I am off or have missed something I would like to stand corrected. Thank you. |
