Bible Question: who is jehovah |
Bible Answer: Isa 42:8 - I am YHWH that is my name and my glory I will not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Jehovah is a mistranliteration of the so-called tetragrammaton. The four Hebrew letters Yod-hey-vav-hey comprise YHWH which is usually rendered LORD in English bibles. I find this to be most troubling. This is the personal name of the creator and translators find it okay to change it 6823 times!! Transliterated into English it likely sounds like; Yahweh. Most linguists agree that Jehovah is grammatically impossible to come up with. Another interesting story is that after the captivity in Babylon, jewish sages who preserved the Old Testament texts purposely vowel pointed the Hebrew letters incorrectly to keep people from saying His name as they believed (and still do) that His name is too sacred to be said. |
