Bible Question:
Shalom, brothers and sisters.Who are the Nicolaitanes found in Rev.2:6,15. Is the Lord talking about the "deeds" being sin, and if so am I to guess that the Nicolaitanes are sinners? Also,( this may be needless ) what is the doctrine that is mentioned in v.15? I gather it seems to be about sin, but I want to be sure. Peace be with you all, michael |
Bible Answer: Hi Michael, I see you are studying the book of revelation. nicolaites are real bad guys: check these three verses: But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 Pet. 2:1 Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; Acts 20:28,29 Yep. there they are. We really do not have a perfect historic definition of them (nicolaites), but what the Bible does tell us is that their doctrine and deeds were lethal. By lethal I mean they wanted to get the principles of the Word out, and impose their doctrines instead. The church in Pergamum (stage that starts with constantine around 300 AC, characterized by sinchretism (mix of christianity mixed with roman idolatry) ) allowed false doctrines and it slowly became weak. check that ephesus (precisely a church warned by paul) rejected these guys because, although they made a big mistake (forgott their first love for the Saviour) they knew the bad guys, "I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false;" So the lesson is, a real congregation that loves Christ has to know the word in order to be able to avoid false teachings; the word is our light, without it we may fall for anything The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.
